You gotta respect the brazeness of Bang & Olufsen. Not only does their new $460 stainless steel BeoSound 2 MP3 player not come with any of those fancy extras like a built-in FM tuner or voice recording or, you know, a screen (money quote: “We’ve made BeoSound 2 so simple to operate that you don’t even have to look at it while you’re using it.”), what’s even more perversely decadent is that it doesn’t actually come with any onboard storage either—you have to add it yourself via an SD card. We’d knock it, but it’s almost like they’re playing a joke on the rich debutante chicks who’ll be getting these for their sweet sixteens.

Looks like a bulkier model of the mockups of the flash iPod making the rounds lately.

It's made to be durable so that it won't dent when you throw it out.

if it had something like volumelogic built in it *might* be worth the extra money.

pretty ambitious though.

The old one cost $500 and had the tendency to rape your dog.

You can see the need to come out with the Beosound 2.

A friend of mine was actually "considering" buying one of the first versions of this... ie- he's got more money than sense and his eyes light up at the sight of anything Bang & Olufsen. No kidding, he's got one of their phones.

At least, with the phones, audio quality is of secondary importance.

Then again, that's gotta be the case for all B&O products.

It looks so ugly, it could have been made by Sony. Does it handle the Atrac-format?
It reminds me of the old Simon machines, but for the color-blind.

I despise B&O. A B&O store has just opened up on my walking route into work. I am nearly to the point of changing my route so I don't have to walk past it and see the ignorant people in there drooling over the stuff.

They only make one decent product (right build quality, sound quality, function for the price) and that is their BeoLab 5 speakers. Have received good reviews and in the correct price bracket for what they are. Everything else they make is overhyped and underperforming.

Almost all of their designs are really timeless and well done though. The internal stuff isn't that great though.

Even that phone isn't that great, call me crazy but wouldn't it have made more sense for the screen to face up so you don't have to pick it up and flip it to see who is calling?

I was looking at one of the banana shaped cordless phones a year ago, it looks really cool but the internals are 2.4ghz which is on its way out because of wireless networking interference. It will probably take them 10 years to move to 5ghz.

If B&O made a cellphone this would be it except it wouldn't have a screen and cost 4x more:

I love B&O's design. Technologically they kinda suck but design wise I really like them.
