The death toll in the tsunami disaster soared past 100,000 today - and is set to climb higher.
A total of 50 Britons are now confirmed dead and at least 100 are unaccounted for after tidal waves swept away resorts in Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and around the Indian Ocean.

80K for Hiroshima (I think)
and 40k? for Nagasaki. (I'm really not sure on the second one. But you can easily do a search on it. I could too, but like you, I'm feeling lazy).
On a side note, around 80K people died from one massive bombing in Tokyo, due a conflagration that developed in the mostly wooden city. I also forgot if the Americans had used incendiary bombs.
Will someone look this up!

Didn't some dam break in Asia within the past 50-75 years and kill over 250,000?

probably won't top the influenza epidemic. I heard the largest concern was the outbreak of diseases since the cities are destroyed, thus there is no sanitation. I was gonna donate money today but then I figured it would be better to check my account, I'm gonna have to wait until payday. unrealated but interesting link.

I thought this must be the worst natural disaster of my lifetime, but Google revealed the Tangshan earthquake of 1976 where 242,419 have been killed according to official figures.

The local news station said, it's like the whole city of Bellevue (where I'm living right now) was gone population-wise.

Just devastating news. Last I heard this morning, officially at 114,000.

This is like a bad fscking pinball game where the numbers keep spinning higher. Or like the numbers on a gas pump when you fill up. And word is that disease will double the total! Bodies continue to wash back in to shore. I saw some of the video on BBC showing the beaches littered with bodies. How do you even get your mind around something like this?
