I have downloaded the netinstall boot.iso from here:
http://fedora.lsu.edu/install.php
I burned the CD and it booted well. I selected it to go an http install and it got an IP address from my router, which is serving DHCP. It now shows an all blue screen and says "Welcome to Fedora Core" on the top left. After 25 minutes on this screen, I shut down the laptop and booted again. This time I selected ftp install (I have two ftp mirrors written down) but it stays at the same "Welcome to Fedora Core".
I redownloaded the iso and burned it again, from a different program this time. Still the same blue screen with the "Welcome to Fedora Core" on it. I then plugged the laptop directly into the DSL and still nothing worked. I am simply downloading the FC3 CDs now however I am really disappointed.
BTW, this is a Dell Inspiron 1000.

WOW. Your sig is highly annoying. You'd think someone with 600+ posts would know better.

Because there isn't an "Other OS" or "linux" forum, I thought I'd post here. Never know who might see it and offer some helpful suggestions...or not! Hehe.

It's 6 lines on a 1280 pixel wide monitor. Not including spaces. With spaces it's 8 lines.
Far too big in any case.

Doesn't really bother me, 1280 is a good size and lots of room to have big sigs.
Sorry I can't be of much help, bstone.

Why are you asking on a Mac forum? FC 3 to me means "Final Cut Pro 3" not Linux.
Also, listing all your equipment in a singature is very lame.

Dunno about that, unless it leads immediately to more money

The pep boys thing is O.K. But the listing of your Apple hardware is tres lame. Very 12 year oldish. Especially since his hardware is crap.

Yeah, what's going on here? Do we really need sig critiques now? Get over yourselves!

No, I'd just hate to see this place denigrate into a spymac type forum.

I am quite amazed that more people aren't getting more perturbed but the sig violations here.
Oh well, looks like another semi-good forum down the tubes.

It's always been like this though, lots of text as sigs; machine specs, etc.
Anyway, doesn't really bother me, never has, just wondered why it got under the skin nof others.

No it hasn't. For the most part most people have abided by the sig guidelines. But there always a few that try to buck the system. Why is that?

It makes it difficult to read the forums if a person's post has a longer sig than post content.
I prefer a sig to have a simple picture in it as it makes it easier for me to spot who is saying what. As simple line of text allows someone to express a little individuality but 6 lines of a person's hardware listing is lame. It makes it difficult to take that person seriously.
Back On Topic (kinda): Why would you post in the Lounge of a Mac forum on installation problems of Linux on a Dell PC? Maybe there are some linux forums that could serve you better? Or even try emailing the Linux dist. and ask them.

Eh, I just can't possibly see the need to get worked up over four lines of text, or six lines of text, or eight lines of text.

I take you less seriously than I take bstone, for turning this into such a big issue, to be honest. It just doesn't matter.
(OK, time to agree to disagree or something. Whoever wants the final word gets to post one more time about it, and then it's over. Dig?)
Anyway, I think posting in the Lounge is a reasonable thing to try when there's no other good place to post on MacNN. It's a reasonable talent collective. At most, you might find somebody who knows about the issue, and at the very least, anything goes in the Lounge (or at least that's how it ought to be).
bstone - probably would've been good for you to be a little more descriptive of the genre of the problem, though, if you want some good pointers. or ask for directions to a good linux forum.

People love to rebel, and not conform, we're not all good little Republicans.
It makes it difficult to read the forums if a person's post has a longer sig than post content.
It doesn't though, not for me anyway, and I'm viewing this on a Powerbook which has a screen size of 1280x854.
