You'd think that in Canada, where it is cold as crap, they'd know how to make a decent heater.

I bought a new Bionaire heater 2 days ago, and I was shocked when I got home and turned it on. It was crazy loud, and I could hardly hear the television over the heater. God forbid somebody should put that heater in their bedroom. No way could somebody sleep.

Well, anyhow I returned it and got another heater, which was 20 times more quiet. The ironic thing is, the new heater was half the price of the bionaire, so I ended up getting 50% of my money back.

There were also 2 heat settings on the heater. HI & LO........The damn LO setting was louder than the HI setting !

Perhaps Bionaire should make hairdryers or vacuum cleaners instead, because that's what their heater sounds like.

You'd think with the amount of hot air that comes out of you that you wouldn't even need a Canadian heater to begin with

Yeah, whatever.

Here is a picture of the exact heater I bought, so nobody else will be fooled.

Don't buy it unless you're a deaf person.

What a whiner, and it ain't that cold where I live at all. We have only had 6 days of snow in the last 3 years, and today it is sunny and borderline t-shirt weather. Nice attempt at a stereotype, however.

Oh, btw, my American built car broke down today.

Even funnier the weather up here has been much better than that mean snowstorm hitting the US.

Even more interesting:

Bionaire® Headquarters:
Milford, Massachusetts, USA

Bionaire® Production Facilities:
USA and China

Would you like some Canadian spring water to wash that foot down with?

Nope, the score is 1 - 0 to me, because I didn't waste $100 on a piece of crap.

Yup, started in Canada now has the head office in the US run by Americans made in the US and China.

This just turned into the funniest backfiring MacNN thread ever.

Coming from you that's pretty funny.

Chicken and Egg my friend, chicken and egg. I have made my share of anti American comments in retaliation to anti Canadian comments, as I did so in this thread.

Perhaps we should all agree to stop being so childish and defensive and the cycle can then hopefully stop.

Designed in Canada, the Bionaire heater comes with a two-year warranty against defects.

So what it comes down to is that you wanted to start a Canadian bashing thread.

You pull out the big wig jokes of it being "cold" (you really need a Mounty or moose joke in there though for real originality). Neat thing is the most populated areas in Canada is Toronto, and Vancouver. Toronto has better weather than NY for the most part and it almost never even snows in BC. The US has more populated areas that are hit and effect more people with cold weather. So that joke is shot.

Second, the BEST Canadian bashing thread you could come up with is a merger of cold jokes and a broken heater which you thought was Canadian (Turns out is is American in the end for the most part). If this is your best shot at Canada and the worst thing about us than I think we are more in luck.

Thanks for re-asuring me what a great country this is.

I don't think it was. Seemed to work ok, it was just damn loud.

Maybe the other models are just fine. I'm just talking about the one particular model I bought.

So, Canadians make crappy heaters. SURPRISE!

I would have thought that Canada being so cold much of the year that they would make a good heater. Who cares how much snow they get, it's all about the temperature eh?

I bet that Canadian company moved to the US to avoid the high tax rate. It's too bad they picked Canada to assemble the unit.

GM cars built in Canada have the worst reliability ratings in the GM family. I wish GM would bring the manufacturing back into the US.

I guess this is just another symptom of NAFTA and Bill Clinton's trade policies biting us in the ass.

I have heat in my apartment you genius. I prefer the heat to come on when I want, and not when some super or landlord decides to put it on.

None of your comments take away from the fact that the bionaire heater I bought sucks, and that's all this thread was about.

Speaking of heat.

The death in early February 1999 of "Al", a homeless man who was sleeping on a heating grate directly under the office of Ontario Premier Mike Harris, along with the death in late February 1999 of Lynn Bluecloud, a homeless woman who was five months pregnant, who died within sight of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa, dramatically underline the consequences of the governments' actions and inaction

Pachead buys some space heater based on silly misconceptions.

Pachead is unhappy with space heater. It did not occur to pachead that this ws a defective model, or that Canada the nation was not actually involved in its design.

Pachead returns said heater, gets another heater which works better for him.

Pachead, out for blood, starts thread at MacNN lounge blaming the nation of Canada for his faulty space heater. Needless to say, the thread is quickly derailed from its original topic of Canadian Space Heater Design and Manufacture, as petty insults are thrown in every direction.

Here here for Pachead, and his silly thread. At least I hope your feet are warm and toasty.

What misconceptions would that be ?

Pachead is unhappy with space heater. It did not occur to pachead that this ws a defective model, or that Canada the nation was not actually involved in its design.

And of course, it did not occur to paully dub, that there was nothing technically wrong with the heater at all, and it functioned as designed.

Pachead returns said heater, gets another heater which works better for him.

True dat.

Misconception:

"You'd think that in Canada, where it is cold as crap, they'd know how to make a decent heater."

Do I really need to explain?

and

"I bought a new Bionaire heater 2 days ago, and I was shocked when I got home and turned it on. It was crazy loud, and I could hardly hear the television over the heater."

Are you SURE it was designed to work that way, that every model was that loud?

He was using satire on SWF.

But then SWF would probably never get it so it was a waste.

But not a total waste. I did get to voice my opinion of GM cars made in Canada eh.

My American made Windows operating system sucks. It's has tonnes of security holes. You'd think such a security conscious nation would be able to develop a more secure operating system for the 90% of it's PC's that can't run MacOS
