Hi, I heard this before a few times and never really paid attention to it. Is this true? Did MS invest in Apple in the 90's?

It's not 40% though, by a long shot. It was 150 million I think, and some agreements re: lawsuits and MS software for the Mac.

Microsoft owns 99% of Apple. Jobs owns the other 1%. If it weren't for MS saving their butts in the 90s, Apple would be dead by now.

Yet no comment towards the chicken? hmmm...
"that said" maybe you should just stay out of it?
There are reasons for everything I do on here. I am showing the hypocrisy of the chicken's actions. I am sure the reason you posted was to defend a canadian.
Besides, I am bored at work and this is a good way to kill time.

Microsoft doesn't own any percentage of Apple now.
Back when Apple was in real trouble, MS bought 150 million shares of non-voting stock (in other words, they had no control of the company, just a financial interest in the company's continued existence). In return, several patent disputes were resolved, Apple got a guarantee that Office for the Mac would continue to exist, and Internet Explorer became the default browser on the Mac.
Microsoft has since sold all those shares, from what I recall, and obviously Apple is no longer required to make IE the default browser (since that honor now falls to Safari).
So, the quick answer to your question is "no".

Ah; my bad. Thanks for the correction. I knew it was, overall, a trivial amount of the company, but not knowing how many shares there were total, I took a guess as to which unit the 150 million applied to (actually, I just had a brain fart, but the first explanation seemed less plausible).

Either way, Oneota, MS made some pretty good money of the sale of those shares.

And out of nowhere you come out with your ignorance.
You truly do not understand Christianity. It is getting quite sad that it has been explained to you so many times, in very small simple words a two year old can understand, and yet you still don't get it.

It was an agreement between apple and MS, MS would make office for mac if apple distributed macs with IE (for the most part), and I'm guessing to look good they put in 150 million bucks to save their butts for the antitrust case.
Of course, after the dems left office, they won the antitrust case anyway.

Nah, stock price doesn't mean anything. You have to take the number of shares that people own into consideration, and that gives you the total market capitalization, or "size," of the company. For Apple it's like 25 billion, and for MSFT it's over 10 times that.
