I already posted that in the network forum, but there aren't too many people there and I'd like to get other people opinion.
So when I send an email using Mail, my IP address appears in the long headers (which is normal), along with the local IP address assigned to my comp by my router, in DHCP mode (which I find weird). Is that the way it is supposed to be? Can I hide that local IP address from email headers? My router is the Dlink 614+.

thanks

villa

Who cares what your local IP is. You are behind a router that is giving out an IP address that thousands of other people share. It probably even matches mine. 192.168.254.6

yeah sideus is right...the 192.168.x.x is a reserved subnet just for hiding behind a router...in fact, if someone is playing on your computer or pretending to be you on another, you can find out which computer sent an email based on the header.

If your email server (I'm assuming you're using one) is good enough, you should be able to get it to rewrite the headers to prevent the internal IPs being displayed.

If you're using an outside email server, I've no idea as using an outside server here (router: Intertex IX66) results in only the public IP addy visible.

But like the others said, don't worry about it.

Don't cross-post.

The Lounge really shouldn't even be for technical questions, though we don't really enforce that.
