Doesn't look fake for me! Check outhere

EDIT: Picture: Plz somebody adjust it to the guidelines. I don't wanna upload it to my servers

http://dms.tecknohost.com/macrumors/...Photo-0003.jpg

[Or you coulda just NOT put it in as an inline image! --tooki]

EDIT2: I'm sorry, the reality distortion field sucked me in. However, I get rid of it now, I think it's fake.

PS: I've seen the pix! Awesome! A white box, with a slot in in the middle front, connectors at the back.

Interesting, and possible. But I will admit that some of the pictures do look like they were taped on to another box.. Which is a very clever fake indeed

Also, didn't someone on MacNN make a rendering they called Media Centre, (British Spelling).. I seem to remember a thread that argued that that was the "Stupid" way to spell it, and people correcting, saying it was british.

It also seems strange it would be BOTH the iHome, and the "Media Centre", but..

it's cool and all, but stuff like this pops up every year. I doubt this is real, though the person really went all out - multiple angles and even a video.

Then clearly you are highly suggestible. It looks like a cheap cardboard mockup in the shots you link to. And since when did Apple employ UK English spelling?

What amazes me about these annual mock-ups is that they are so transparently and relentlessly awful.

Someone on Mac Forums made a good point: Don't Americans spell "Centre" c-e-n-t-E-R instead of -R-E?

And when has Apple produced a 'UK edition' of any hardware?

The answer begins with 'n' and ends with 'ever'.

It's a crap cardboard fake. I'm amazed that anybody thinks otherwise.

Do you really think this looks realistic? Or does it not give the slightest indication that someone has made this out of a small, and slightly battered, cardboard box? Look at the wild angles, for f***'s sake.

And don't you think that if they made the effort to oh-so-sneakily get this out of its cardboard box, they might just go the extra half-mile and, oh, plug the f***ing thing in so that we could see what it actually does?

Oh, I despair sometimes, I really do.

I agree the shots all look fake. And I would not expect Apple to call it "centre" rather than "center." But the video is the thing that has me wondering. It makes me wonder if the crappy photos are just cause they are with the camera phone. The extension on the movie file is 'cause it's with a camera phone. Also, grabbing shots with a camera phone is more convincing itself.

So with the rumors about a headless iMac floating around, this seems plausible. If true, it seems they are directly competing with Microsoft on this one.

However, don't you think an iHome would need a few more AV ports on it? How can you get high quality stuff without the right connections? A Mac made for the living room would need some more high quality stuff.

Ooo, this would be perfect for my mom. Can it do the internet AND Tivo functions?

(I've gone into many tangents...)

[edit] Oh wait, look at this one:
http://dms.tecknohost.com/macrumors/...Photo-0004.jpg

Since when does Apple have the product at the top of the styrofoam? It should be under another huge chunk. Then look at the next one where the box is huge and the product should definitely be in the middle, not way up at the top like the pic I showed. The video had me going though.

The 'iHome's' lines aren't straight. At the bottom right and top left of the picture it's clearly slightly bent in the way that a cardboard box would be. And the left hand side of the box isn't parallel with the right-hand side.

Oh, and you can actually see the piece of paper on which the Apple logo has been printed on top.

See I'm thinking it's a crappy quality camera too. Like I said before, I want to believe, but other than what's already been mentioned, the packaging (inside) looks hack and is holding me back. It's not clean, and layered, like you'd expect from Apple.

OMG it is a cardboard box. And you can see the paper. Haha, yeah you're right. Fake. The ports also have that 2D look to them as if it's just a print out.

I didn't notice the "centre" spelling at first. And regarding the lack of TV connection it might also seem like a fake. I think this would be a great device anyway and now I'm pending whether it's a fake or not. We will see in a couple of days I guess

Well if it were real, it'd probably be like Microsofts media center or whatever they call it, where it's supposed to be the base media computer of the house, storing everything from pictures to recorded shows, available for playback on any tv in the house, and able to be set for recording from the web.

(Yes, I watched the CES thing with Gates which gave me all this info...)

Ummm... where does the monitor plug in? Or does it only have a mini-VGA (or mini-DVI) port? I can't imagine that Apple would go that route.

IMO, it doesn't feel right. I think it's fake.

Dear Americans,

The language you speak is called ENGLISH, as in that place that is part of BRITAIN, which is the place that ran the world before you did. BRITISH people spell words properly, like Centre with an RE, Colour with a U, and Grey with an E and not a f***ing A in it, but hey, if you can't spell the word colour properly, what chance have you got with specific ones like grey?

And this:

is beer, not the bottle of rat's urine you call Budweiser.

rant over.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

Maybe you have an axe to grind with our government but for me personally, I'm not going to change the way I speak and write just because someone on the other side of the ocean has a problem with it. It's no more right or wrong than the alternative.

Sorry for continuing the derail, I'll stop now...

There are more Americans than English, and some aspects of American English are in fact closer to middle English than yours.

And since English spelling wasn't cemented until fairly recently (long AFTER American English was established in America), you have no claim to one "proper" spelling any more than we do.

Most Brits don't speak proper Queen's English anyway, but rather a local dialect that nobody else can understand. (The U.S.'s major dialects don't vary a whole lot regionally.)

So get off your high horse, shut up, and remember that (to use your words) Britain "is the place that ran the world before" the U.S. did. If you're so right, how come you lost all your colonies?

Hehe, that was funny. I wanted to put some and in there, but I left them out just to see what happened, so . You've never heard of Al Murray the Pub Landlord then?

I stand by the bit about beer though, Budweiser is rat's mess.

SO about the cardboard box, I posted this in the iMac forum as soon as I saw it on AI. The more I look at it now, the more obvious it is that its fake. Is it me or is it in the same room as that LCD monitor in a box that they tried to pull off as an iMac G5? The fat iBook form factor would be good though.

From a aesthetics_standpoint, I would call fake.

I think Apple would not have printed "iHome" on the top of their machine... it doesn't seem their style. Just the Apple logo would seem more believable.

I agree that this looks fake. Having said that, Apple should make a product just like this. This would be a set-top box that functioned as follows:

1. DVD Player (for iMovie/iDVD content as well as commercial DVDs)
2. Digital Photo Player (for iPhoto content on the Mac, Photoshop Elements or My Pictures content on Windows)
3. Digital Audio Player (for iTunes content including ITMS tracks)
4. Digital Video Player (for QT based video content ... though this isn't really necessary given #1)

All content would be stored on your Mac and accessed over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Rendezvous enabled. GUI is displayed on the TV. Clickwheel based remote for transport control and to navigate the content.

This would make the Digital Hub strategy complete. The Mac is used to create and organize digital media, while the "iHome" (along with the iPod) is used to consume digital media. This would be much more effective and convenient than trying to hook an iPod up to your home theater.

**hopesitsafake**

I'll be damned if I ever put a white plastic box next to/on top of my HT equipment - or anywhere in my living room, for that matter.

Aluminum/silver/black? Likely.
White plastic? Never.
Yuck.

Well, that and elgato will be all over Apple if they call it iHome (sound similar to eyeHome doesn't it?)
