She once thought that cd-r's were LITERALLY burned...
Has anyone else ever had a similar experience with someone they knew?

I just had to explain ram, memory, viruses, worms, trojan horses, firewalls, antiviruses today. Why a P III 1 ghz laptop with 240 mb of RAM might not last at least 10 years. Why Explorer is BAD and Firefox is better.

We're talking about really, really good friends. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered installing Firefox, Avast (no antivirus) finding every worm, virus and trojan horse of the last 3 years (Blaster, even -jeez!), Adaware, told them about ZoneAlarm SpyBot SD for when they ever get around to getting an ADSL, as I was done for the day. When I get back from my trip, I may just Nuke and Pave.

And then I mentioned that I don't have to plut up with all this crap, as Macs are different. My girlfriend nodded as she's a switcher.

Oh and a 68 does not a ca$h make.

I had the local internet guy come out to fix the workgroup bridge for our internet service. He asked where the CPU was. My wife pointed out my G4 Cube sitting right next to the flat panel with Soundsticks. THe repairman was like, "No, that's your subwoofer. I mean the computer." (At least he said it nice, and not in a condescending way according to her.) So she ejected the DVDthat was in the Cube and out it popped. She said the guy's jaw about hit the ground. He then picked the Cube up to look at the ethernet / USB connections. His quote was, "Wow, I never thought much of Apple's before, but this is a beutiful piece of engineering." He kept asking her more about the specs, but she didn't know much about the tech stuff.

Subwoofer...heh, heh

The only way that she can learn is by asking questions. There are no dumb questions. Just inadequate answers.

Yeah, just because it's familiar to you and not her doesn't mean she's stupid. I'm sure there are things you have no clue about that she thinks the same thing of you if she were so inclined.

If you truly think your girlfriend is "stupid" then maybe you should break up with her. I'm sure she appreciates your loving commently on a public forum.

I didn't imply that she was dumb as in her IQ being low, I just think that her computer illiteracy is amusing. (And annoying! ) I had to help her figure out if her Dell could "burn" cd's. She didn't know that iTunes could burn them either. I'm giving her my iMac once I get a new one. (She doesn't use the computer a whole lot, obviously.) And yes, I have a girlfriend and we have been going out for about a year so far. I love her very very much.

true that. the best is when some call me to ask why a cd won't burn. so i go over there and discover that they don't have a burner and they are just putting in a blank cd and dragging mp3 files into it through explorer. this is the 2k5's. everyone should atleast know the basics of computers, imo atleast.

Grow up. Respect in relationships is so out of style I guess.

and yes the smiley apparently didn't show up as intended. Fixed with an edit.

It was a joke, she laughed. Not having thin skin and being secure are good traits to have when in a relationship.

The laser is merely changing the dye underneath the plastic so that it creates an imprint.

Hmm, technically, a laser does "burn" indentions in the wafer which translate into binary, doesn't it?

I'm posting here this once to clear some things up. I left the lounge. I never left the software, video editing, etc forums. They're a great resource to anyone with a mac, it'd be stupid to abandon them. So yes, I do still read the forums, but not the lounge. It's a waste of time. 99% of the crap on here is boring unintelligent **** consisting of a bunch of star wars geeks, star trek geeks, stupid assed french canadians, and a bunch of prepuebescent morons who like posting "teh" and "+1". The lounge, a few years ago, was actually interesting. Check out the archives, you won't find debates and informative interesting threads like that anymore. So yeah, I quit. Every once in a while, someone PM's me or IM's me with a lounge topic pertaining to me. A few weeks ago, you called me a pothead, which is retarded. I smoke occasionally- meaning 6-10 times a year or so. That's hardly considered being a pothead, but I could see how someone as stupid as your dumb union ass could be confused- it doesn't take much.

Lastly, I'm still happily married and still very much in love with the greatest woman in the world, my wife Kristin.

Sheesh this place is worse than a freakin' knitting party.

- Ca$h (the original 68)

PS: Goodbye, again, or at least until somebody starts spreading stupid rumors like I've gotten a divorce.

Tra la la la la, over the hill we go,
to where we head?
Tra la la la la off to the sunny meadows
and down to the stream
To dunk our heads in water
just to hear ourselves scream
Tra la la la la may the bubbles cease
And then we die…and see ca$h
Ark!
It's not the place that we thought we might be!

Hmm…

If ca$h was a pothead he'd post something like that, which he didn't. And I guess that means…

Here's another good one.

Ding ding ding. We have someone who believes in keeping their word and not copping out! I would trust you in hard situations, whereas I know people like "saul goode" would probably just wet their pants and run away.
