Looks as if I'll be making my first trip to the Middle East later this month. Wanted to see if anyone here is from Dubai, or has been there. And recommendations, suggestions, comments, etc. Thanks.

There was a thread with the exact same information request within the past year on MacNN, AppleInsider, or AppleNova.

As a US servicemember with no Arabic language skills, I had no problem getting around Dubai. Taxis seemed plentiful and I remember a bus terminal. There is a Hard Rock Cafe, if you're interested in that kind of thing, air-conditioned malls with food courts and familiar stores such as IKEA, and an interesting museum. It was easy to find guidebooks in English (and any other language). In fact, many shopkeepers speak English because, if I remember correctly, it is a common British tourist destination. There is a channel dividing the city and there are water taxis, and some might offer tours.

Dubai relies heavily on commerce and has made itself a trading center in anticipation of the eventual loss of oil revenue. A few of us bought Nokia 9000 Communicators for about half the price they were selling them in Italy (our homeport).

Two good links for you. And don't be afraid to ask the people there about stuff. They are very friendly and willing to help.
If Palestinians are expected to negotiate under occupation, then Israel must be expected to negotiate as we resist that occupation.
