I've noticed that when I order something that will be shipped via FedEx Ground even though it says a number of days to deliver it, if FedEx has the item in their hands they will deliver it immediately if they can, even if it's in only 24 hours. But, if the item comes via UPS, if they give a delivery date, they will only deliver on or after that date. I've never received anything from UPS before the scheduled delivery date, while with FedEx it happens all the time.
FedEx has a "No later-than" philosophy while UPS has a "No Sooner-than" philosophy!
Based on that, I know which company I prefer.

And I thought there is a lawsuit going on over this...
Guess I misjudged your title.

that's funny, because i've had the exact opposite experience. Fedex always waits as long as possible before delivering, but UPS delivers as soon as it gets here. might have to do with the efficiency of the 'sorting facilities' (or whatever they call them) near us?

That hadn't occured to me, but now that you mention it, I live 50 miles from a main FedEx Hub, I'm not sure where the nearest UPS Hub is, possibly about 600 Miles south of me.
I think you "hit the nail on the head" on this one. Therefore my new shipping company choice will be based on whomever has the nearest hub to me?

Interesting topic, FedEx holds my packages at the sort facility and delivers it on the day scheduled, so often I'll have a package held at the Boston sorting place Friday and it won't arrive till Wednesday. UPS seems to be the opposite and delivers it as soon as it reaches the sorting building here in Leominster.

I prefer UPS of FedEx hands-down. I'm constantly let-down with FedEx (we *have* to use them for some items at work), but UPS is always pulling-through for us.
In my experience, the FedEx guys work by the clock: if they're to get off work at 6:00 and they have to be on their way to the hub by 5:30, if you haven't had your package delivered yet, then too bad -- you'll get it tomorrow. No matter what you pay. They don't care.
UPS, on the other hand, has never caused any delivery issues like this either at work or with my personal shipping (which I do a lot of).
