They are both pretty decent and they both have their plus and minuses and now they are both affordable for average users. Most people have atleast one of the two... for your next upgrade, get the other and you're set!
Why have just a Mac when you can have a PC too? Have both!
I am currently using a PC at home and a mac at work and I have to admit I am quite satisfied. Web browsing with firefox on XP is better than OSX imo.
My Mac OSX itself is still cash money blingin' over XP though (not significantly that different though).
So I have both. I am happy with that.
[i actually have a tibook at home too that runs OS9 and that works well for me too]

A Mac with VirtualPC is enough for me. I don't need another honkin box and monitor in my office.

I actually just built my own Windows machine...
It's very fast, and I like software compatibility, but aside from that, its not getting much use past Half Life 2 and old games that won't run in Classic. For anything more its useless, not to mention Window's interface is cluttered... And Office 2003 makes my eyes burn...

Well, I wouldn't go nearly that far, APU. I have had to use XP more often recently, and Windows thankfully continues to blow - its inherent UI/UE deficiencies still stick out prominently. I think it's humorous how convoluted XP's control panels are, now that they're obfuscated by a dumbed down hyperlink interface. One of the only positive things I can say about XP is that arrow key scrolling in Firefox is much faster and smoother than in Safari. In certain situations it undoubtedly makes sense to have a PC at one's disposal. I'll recommend a PC if the situation warrants it. But personally, I would rather dispose of the entire wretched breed. The Wintel platform is trash and will likely always remain trash. Microsoft's core design ethos simply lacks style and taste, because for Microsoft products are means to one end - profit. Obviously all companies wish to profit, but companies like Apple also care about the intrinsic value of the products they produce.
So while I will readily admit that there are some valid uses of PCs, I will never happily purchase one. I will never forgive Microsoft's thievery of the Mac's UI. I suppose I will always be a platform zealot.

I used to be a Mac platform zealot, but got over it after XP. Now that I'm used to XP, going back to OS X seems jarring to me. I can do it, mind you, but it's annoying to re-orient to the Mac. And IMO, XP is just as stable and fast as long as you know enough about computers to keep from inviting in spyware and viruses. For expert users, I think it's more about what you're comfortable with than real advantages these days.
But for a basic computer user with no experience and/or a penchant for clicking on spyware bait, I'm still 100% pro-Mac. At least, until these Mac minis proliferate enough to attract the attention of the 1337 h4c|<z0rz.

On the opposite side, to Mac users talking to PC users this should be the motto in trying to switch them
"you like your ipod and itunes right? well, let me tell you the Mac platform is very similar to that. buy a mac and you'll get the best of both worlds. give it a shot, it's only $500 bucks!"
