The title says it all. Even if I would not live in Germany and thus being unable to recieve international broadcasting stations with my crappy satelite system, I would not watch it. The advertising is a pain in the arse, watchin on DVD is a lot smoother and one has not to wait what happens next… But of course I'd like to know, whether the start was good or not. Please don't spoil, just compare it to S 1, 2 or 3. Anyone?

I've never watched the previous seasons but I did find the season 4 premiere quite entertaining.

REALLY REALLY REALLY! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!!!!!!!!!

Stop watching 24 S4 NOW and get the previous seasons on dvd (quite good deals on ebay).

There is nothing comparable in regards of tension. You'd take too much out when you begin with S4! Really, believe me.

Just overlook small weaknesses in the plot from time to time and you will be entertained excellently.

BUT STOP WATCHING NOW. (Hey, that's how Jack would say it, right? ;-) >Put the gun down. Now. Put the gun down or shoot me. But decide now!<

Hear my advice

They premiered the first two episodes on Sunday, and followed it up with 2 more on Monday. So we got to see the first 4 episodes.

I enjoy the show. It's about the only show i watch. And knowing that without the advertisers, the show wouldn't exist, I have no problems with the periodic commercials.

24 is designed with commercials and week-long breaks inbetween episodes. I and most who watch it during the season get the complete experience. We enjoy the suspense just as it was intended.

I'm sorry to hear that you can only watch it on DVD.

Thanks, but in this case it is not neccessary. First, I am a huge enemy of advertising. Of course, it's absolutely neccessary, but it's THAT STUPID! Ringtones via SMS? Hello? That reminds me that the target audience (do you say so in english) is <16 and I hate that.

Second, I could download it. Only: You can suppose that my english is quite good, but sometimes subtitles are handsome, 'cause Jack is mumbeling too often. When they speak quiet, I sometimes don't understand, and that is uncool.

Tell me just one thing: Is Kim in again? Her subplots were always a pain in the ass, and she not even got naked during her crappy days… :-)

Hahaha! I remember in season 2... I was practically yelling at the TV everytime she appeared - "Just go to your Aunt Carol's".

No sight of Kim yet in Season 4. I get the feeling she may emerge eventually.

I'm recording them via EyeTV and after editing out the commercials of the first two episodes, a 2-hour recording shrinks to an hour and 20 minutes. That's 20 minutes of commercials an hour (way too many).

When I was in the UK, the BBC had the first two seasons ... commercial free + the beeb had a fan show interviewing the cast, etc. Sky/Murdoch had them last season and didn't do nearly as good of a job IMO.

I think we should boot andread_g4 from the thread and let loose. There's too much good stuff that has already happened for us all to have to keep quiet.

andreas_g4, consider yourself warned: I cannot guarantee that I will be able to keep the entire season under wraps just because you refuse to watch advertising and are waiting for the entire season to come out on DVD.

Next post of mine, I'm letting it all out... Chloe's manly girlfriend, Jack's schizophrenia, Sherry's armed escape from prison, President Palmer's brother dealing crack, Chase's long, heavy-metal hairdo and admission of impotence... all of it.

It is amazing how inept they made CTU for this season.

But awesome casting for Behrooz's mother. She scares the hell out of me.

But Sherry opened Tony Almonte's cell during her prison break, so it looks like he'll be back at CTU shortly (after he goes to NY to try and win Michelle back from long-haired, impotent Chase).

Me too, and I never thought I'd ever be scared of a character played by Loni Anderson.

It's nice to see her working again since WKRP in Cincinatti went off the air.

Loni Anderson or Shohreh Aghadashloo... same difference.

Shohreh played the same character as Loni in the Iranian version of WKRP... STFU in Tehran-atti.

Gruesome. Retarded. Worst. Acting. Ever.

Perfectly in line with last season. If you really want to waste the bandwidth, the HD space, plus the time to watch this shite, get on usenet.

Most. Terrible.

Nah, I believe it when I see it… Nina should have shot Chloe before she… psssst. Or Chappelle should have fired her immediately before he... Ah dammit. Never mess with Jacks bodycount.

Yes, I am for real. The "weird coincidences" (either to the advantage or disadvantage of the main characters) that drive most of the show, the acting performance of most characters (e.g. that blond silicone monster playing Jack's daughter) as well as the worn-out story line of the "evil" Muslim terrorist (wait until you see S4, I won't say more here) turn the show into little more than involuntary comedy that makes "Mars Attacks" look like a documentary.

Parts of season 2, along with the entire season 3 as well as season 4 (so far) is "bottom-feeder" TV of the very worst kind - braindead clichés, hideous plots and shit exploding left and right does not automatically make for a good TV series. It's the "TV drama" equivalent of the Jerry Springer Show.

Good TV, you ask? Well, in the entertainment dept., for example:

- The Shield (almost as wacky as 24 but very nicely done)
- The Sopranos
- Law and Order - CI
- 24, Season 1 was decent, Season 2 was (somewhat) bearable, the rest is utter crap

any other questions?

You contradict yourself.

You call the Sporanos "good TV", yet blast 24 for being "gruesome"??? CONFLICTED!

"Most. Terrible."??

Can you say "Emmy"?

What happened...did Kiefer screw your girlfriend or something?

Starman,

Advice of the day™ - just for you and free of charge: Read up on what you plan on dissing others for before acting on whatever misguided motivation is driving you:
  • Main Entry: grue·some
    Pronunciation: 'grü-s&m
    Function: adjective
Etymology: alteration of earlier growsome, from English dialect grow, grue to shiver, from Middle English gruen, probably from Middle Dutch gruwen; akin to Old High German ingruEn to shiver
: inspiring horror or repulsion : GRISLY
    synonym see GHASTLY
    - grue·some·ly adverb
    - grue·some·ness noun
Other than that - an English class at your local community college might just be thing you need - they used to have them when I lived in NJ. In case you're more the DIY type - help yourself here.

Did any part of my post state that you are required to agree with me? Did I diss others when stating my opinion? What happened to you? Kiefer screw you and now he isn't returning your phone calls?

Fudgepickle.

Ah, what's a TV show thread without the token flamer. If you are not interested in the show, how about stepping out and participating in a thread which better suits you.

Although I'll give you props because you said fudgepickle.

I watched the first 3 seasons on DVD, usually 6 or 7 episodes at a time, so this season it's a new experience watching 1 or 2 at a time. At least I'm not staying up so late now though. I'm digging it so far. Berush's mom would be hot if she were about 30 years younger. I'm not so much about the new head of CTU. She's an ass and completely inept, and makes me actually miss Chapelle. I also miss some of the older crew.

For those of you who haven't seen the show, give it a try. Ignore the detractors. YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.

WTF?
  • Does the thread title state "positive opinions only"?
  • Did I categorically dismiss the entire show?
  • Did I say "anyone who likes the show is an idiot" and/or attack anyone who said they like the show?
  • Did I insult your girlfriend/wife (or anyone else's, for that matter) because you do like the show?
Is there a new soft drink (that I haven't heard of yet) being handed out along with the start of season 4 that dissolves your synapses?

Sod off.

If any of you missed the first 4 episodes but would like to get into it for next week, just do a google search for 24 torrent and click the first link.

Watch 'em. Delete 'em. And then start watching them on TV with the advertisements.

I'm a little confused about how you blast the show for being gruesome, yet consider The Sopranos good TV. BOTH shows are violent, BOTH shows won Emmys. WTF is your problem?

I love the Hollywood OS.

[Some Character]: Hey whats this random red hexadecimal flying across my screen.

[Some other character]: Oh...hex code you say? I can read that; let me see....Yep. That's a plot to hijack some "nodes;" we better call the CT's.

I have to agree with the guy. Season 1 was fun, season 2 had its moments...season 3 was kind of a waste of time. Season 4 could return to entertaining; some parts of the first four shows are great (right now I'd say it's better than season 3, but not sure how it stands with season 2.

I consider 24 entertaining and campy, maybe "good," but certainly not "great."

"Great" I equate with great acting, great script, intriguing, etc.

The only "great" show I've been following lately is "Huff." If you don't have Showtime, do yourself a favor and download the episodes.
"You rise," he said, "like Aurora."

I could care less what you do or get cranky about. You're cheap entertainment at this point.

I called you out when you started name calling. You in turn became even more belligerent, and you continue to do so. So who's puffy and indignant? Calm down before you get an aneurism. Or, we could go at it until ThinkInsane or someone else comes in and tells us to quiet down.

Oooh ... look at the sweet little wabbit. The good ole' "I'll pee on your leg one last time and then suggest we all calm down like the grown-ups that we all are".

If you guys could at least think of something new once in a while but you're boring even when you're trying to argue with someone. Maybe you'd like to visit another forum every now and then so you could come back with a few new cards up your sleeve - right now you all sound the same. It's that family tree and the circle thing, you know?

I think I'll get back to work for a while and check back later to see if you had an idea or two - and until then let you guys "lend each other a hand". Deal?

edit: before I forget and so you have something constructive to do in the meantime - read starman's first post (last line), then read my answer and we'll talk about the "calling names" thing again, alright?

You don't read so well, do you? Well alright, making a connection across 500 or so pixels and more than two posts can be a daunting task so, hint #1 ...
  • (starman): "... What happened...did Kiefer screw your girlfriend or something? ..."
(effgee): "... What happened to you? Kiefer screw you and now he isn't returning your phone calls? ..."
Synapses firing yet? Any noticeable currents running through that grey matter?

Oh, btw - I'm (somewhat) confident that by taking a quick peek at my post count you should be able to determine that you're right on target again - I must be the forum authority not only around here but elsewhere as well.

I recommend (in all friendship, of course) taking a brief look at the information presented right in front of you (hint #2, it's all in the browser window) before shooting off one of them brain-piercingly sarcastic posts of yours that really put people back in their place - because then you'd be the intarweb pope and you'd always be right. And that'd be quite something, wouldn't it?
Just imagine yourself - sitting in front of your computer, wearing that fine Zucchetto - just marvelous. I for one would make sure I'd be the first in line to ask for your blessing before ever posting in any forum again. Damn, this is like choosing between the pest and cholera but I'm kinda bored - so I'll get back to my paperwork.

Never watched the show. I hear some stuff about the terrorist portrayal, but that's about it. I also heard some clip with a conversation between some hippie/protester and some govvie. The hippie was complaining about his father putting everyone in a state of fear or something like that, then he barks out something like, "I serve my country! What the hell do you do?" Something like that. It got my attention. Anyone care to give me the gist of the whole thing?

The radical liberal dude is the son of the Sec. of Defense. That conversation was with his father, who had just asked him to not be the featured speaked at (I believe) a protest on Boeing, Northrop Grumman... some defense/aerospace-type contractor. The company name was very familiar at the time, but I seem to have forgotten it.

Soon thereafter, President Martin Sheen (he's prez on this show, too) has a talk with the Defense Secretary and tells him to let the kid speak at the protest... says to the SOD that there are a lot worse things for the kid to idolize than Michael Moore, and that he should be proud of his kid.

The Secretary of Defense then strangles President Sheen, shoots Charlie Sheen, and puts a banana in Emilio Estevez's muffler. Meanwhile, the hippie kid gets his job back running a computer company based in Cupertino, CA, and he doesn't end up speaking at the protest.

The show's main character, Jack Bauer, is head of security at the computer company. He also knows what the kid's father did to the Sheen family, so Jack is now trying to convince the hippie to speak at a protest in D.C. during the inauguration of the new incoming President (played by Michael J Fox) in the hopes of luring his on-the-run father into stopping by for another "please don't speak at the protest" lecture.

That where it left off.

The father was right…until he shot Sheen. And what about that "portrayal of terrorist" thing that was floating around a couple days ago? Was that accurate? (it's political, but so is the show).

I agree with you on this one. They need to find another evil entity that poses a threat to the world (like the US Govt.)

Yeah, a bunch of Turks are whining about the terrorist plot originating out of Turkey or something.

Just log onto the 24um, they're freaking annoying.

Umm, the show revolves around the Counter Terrorism Unit. That's like saying that "ER" should spend a season in a department store.

Regardless, 24 is not always about Muslim terrorists. Last season's 24 dealt with a Mexican crime family, with a little help from a Russian/Euro-type virus reseller, a former British special forces dude, and a lovely American woman named Nina.

Oh, yeah...maybe instead the show should revolve around unemployed people in Greenland getting riled up about the goings on in Paraguay. Yeah, that'll knock the show out of clichéland.

Synapses firing yet? Any noticeable currents running through that grey matter?
Well I'm hungover today, so as fun as it's been, it's doubtful I'll be sharing in this wonderful exchange with you as much, at least this morning. You've been great, but we'll have to see how I'm feeling after the alka seltzer does its work.

Yeah, I already saw your earlier posts, synapses fired, blah blah blah, starman hurt your feelings, wah, etc. etc.

I already said 2 posts ago, I don't care what you do. I gave you crap for name calling (never mind that I gave you props on the choice of name), and apparently it hit home. Everytime I come back, you've written another flurry of synapse-related insults and stale one-liners. Aw, you've really hurt my feelings. I think I'm gonna need some counseling.

From cranky to lame humor to chest beating. I haven't actually seen someone use the post count card in ages. Yep, you're a true genius.

Since you're looking for affirmation, let me be the first on here to congratulate you. You have hereby been formally acknowledged by me, xi_hyperon, in your status as Forum Authority™ and all that such authority implies. That's the funniest thing you've eeked out yet.

I recommend (in all friendship, of course) that you don't give up on the paperwork though. At least that in all likelyhood is something productive and will actually garner some semblance of worth in the real world. I'm starting to get a sense of you though, and I'm sure you'll come back and flail yourself against the wall some more.

Forum authority. Hahahahahahahaha. What a card.
