Nah, they'll just keep low for a bit, then migrate somewhere else.

No. Apple will not win the suit. Or it will be dropped. Or they will realize that searching for behind-the-scenes info is NOT illegal, etc.

I think Apple will win the lawsuit, but it won't do much to stop the rumors. A lot of the "rumors" seem to emanate from 3rd parties who have connections to the company. Take Mac OS X "Tiger" for example. Before WWDC, sites had almost nothing on it. Everything was basically just a guess. After WWDC, sites have descriptions of how features work, screenshots from developer builds and improvements after WWDC, and all this other stuff.
Look at the iMac G4. No one really knew what it was going to be like. Then I think Newsweek released the article of it a little early on their website.
Then there was the whole ATI cards being used in a Macs yet to be announced or upgraded before the keynote thing.
I feel Apple can generally keep its own secrets. There is really no motivation for their own employees to leak info, as it would put whatever project they were working on in jeopardy, and that could translate into lost sales and bonuses for them. It's when Apple works with other companies and 3rd parties that info gets leaked.

Agreed. Nobody saw the first iPod coming. Nobody saw the iMac G4, or the original iMac. Nobody knew we'd get laptops with SuperDrives so soon, etc.

Well, nobody willing to spill the beans to everyone on the web anyhow. I have been privy to prerelease information for many products from different companies, but I, like the majority of people in such a position, honor the NDAs that they sign.

It seems that there are always individuals willing to speak on the basis of anonymity.

Indeed.
And thanks to them, we have stuff to talk about other than religion and politics.
I hope TS will stay alive, for it will set the precedence.

Apple does it to make news - keeps them in the press. If they really didn't want the attention, they would ignore it most likely.
