I cant believe this! I guess the money coming in from Paypal is not enough to feed their greed.

Time to switch to Yahoo Auctions. Amazon is just chock full of scams.

We are writing to let you know that effective midnight PST, February 18, 2005 eBay.com and eBay Motors will be making changes to the fee structure.

The fee changes are as follows:

Gallery fees will be raised from $0.25 to $0.35 per listing. We will also be increasing the size of the Gallery image on search and listings pages by 56%. This will make it easier for buyers to see details of the item before clicking into the listing.

Buy It Now fees will no longer be charged at a flat rate, and will instead be determined based on the Buy It Now price. Fees will be charged as follows:

Buy It Now Price
Fee

$0.01 - 9.99 $0.05

$10 - 24.99 $0.10

$25 - 49.99 $0.20

$50+ $0.25

10-Day Duration
The fee for 10-day duration listings will be raised from $0.20 to $0.40 per listing.

eBay Stores
The fee for the Basic eBay Store subscription will be raised from $9.95 to $15.95 per month. The subscription fee for Featured and Anchor Stores will be unchanged.

Closing Price

$0.01 - $25
OLD---5.25% of the closing value
NEW---8% of the closing price

$25.01 - $1,000
OLD----5.25% of the initial $25, plus 2.75% of the remaining closing value balance.
NEW----8% of the initial $25, plus 5% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 - $1000)

Over $1,000
OLD----5.25% of the initial $25, plus 2.75% of the next $25.01-$1000, plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value).
NEW----8% of the initial $25, plus 5% of the next $25.01 - $1000, plus 3% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value).

if you sell something that was $100, you used to have to pay around 5 bucks in closing fees, now you have to pay 8 bucks. that is not just 10 cents.

That little 8% adds up quickly. Let's just say that you have a PowerMac and sell it for $1000 on eBay. The fee ends up being $80. Most people don't want to buy from you unless you have PayPal. The fee from there would end up being 2.9% + $0.30 or $29.30. Add a little more because you will have to pay a % because of the extra cost for shipping which is added to the total when you receive the payment.

$109.30 in fees for the PowerMac. As if it wasn't bad enough before.

I just became a power seller on eBay and holy **** the fees add up. I've sold $1500 worth of computer stuff on eBay in the last 2 weeks and I've almost had $200 of eBay fees alone, not to mention how much I got raped by PayPal. Liek someone said it's worth it because morons overpay on eBay and drive up the prices on our 400 MHz G4 towers and 600 MHz iBooks.

Better list all my stuff now before they implement the higher fees... I do have a few things I have to list. Now's as good a time as any.

Except that closing value fees were percentage based in the first place, so inflation adjustment was built in. The new closing value fees are bordering on outrageous IMO. Couldn't care less about the other fees.

I guess eBay is still better than World of Warcraft's auction house

There is a tax joke to me made here, but it lost his way here.

But this is just like having tax raises. "It's only a 14 cent tax on a six pack of beer!" say many Pennsylvanians. But that adds up. Say you have just 1 six pack a week, that's over $5 worth of additional tax on a single product. People threw tea in bays on a 1% tax. eBay is not making a smart move here. They're going to discourage low-end listings. And last time I checked, that's not good. Perhaps they should rethink this and find other means of profit boosting.

It's funny that you guys hate price raises but are gung-ho on tax increases. (sorry for the politics)

Sadly this is the rule rather than the exception. Corporations spending their time planning how to get more of our money. Going up according the of inflation is OK, but double and triple is nothing but greed.

I'm going to get my use out of them until the fees go up and then I'm done with them. Between them and paypal (which they own) it takes away much profit I get on anything I sell.

Business in the U.S. is based on greed. They're just pushing us to our limit. As producers, that's their job. Our job as consumers is to draw the line.

People on ebay don't overpay. They define what something is worth. Of course ebay is very unstable environment, and something can go for much less money one week, over another.

Don't like the price increases? Don't list stuff. Use your local classifieds. Then the eBay feels don't seem so bad.
