so says Spymac
I may be a bit tipsy, but this boggles my mind.

edit: quote added:
"In addition, Asustek will also start shipping iBook G5 notebooks to Apple in the second quarter of this year. Shipments of the current iBook notebooks totaled about 110,000-120,000 units a month in the fourth quarter last year, the sources noted."

Spymac, eh? Um…no. Spymac sucks. I don't understand how they could fit a processor like that in a smaller, more compact package but struggle with a larger Powerbook?

Believe it when I see it. They're really going to have the cut all the fat out to make those laptops run.

How about the accuracy of this thing? How do we know for sure? We don't want a PowerbookGate scandal going on.

Crossposted from the thread in the PowerBook forum:

Not to rain on everyone's parade here, but this rumor came from Digitimes. Their accuracy seems to be slightly less than MOSR. I say slightly less because at least MOSR managed to get the Cube right, five years ago.

Example of a whole bunch of BS rumors from Digitimes:

http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/...17033706.shtml

That was in September 2003. Since then, here are some more rumors DigiTimes has put out:

iBox - AirPort-enabled TV tuner and video recorder:

15.4-inch PowerBook

Metallic iMac, and Apple-branded Tablet PC

And a new one - Is the Apple brand being discarded?, with the evidence being that the Apple logo appears face down if you stand the Mac mini on its side instead of laying it flat on the desk as intended (WTF?)

The combination of their rumors being very unreliable in the past, the fact that Oppenheimer just made it clear not to expect a G5 PowerBook soon, and the fact that this rumor mentions an iBook G5 makes me very, very skeptical.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

yeah.. it seems the iBooks will be due for an update in the 2nd quarter.. but I doubt it'll be G5.
Shame though.

Ahm... iBook G5 before Powerbook G5 can simply not happen. I could imagine both lines going G5 at the same time (because if they can fit it into a Powerbook, they can fit it into an iBook, unlike Power Mac <-> iMac), but then of course with substantial benefits on the Powerbook side to distinguish them…

if the chart above is true, which it looks like its not. then they will be released at the same time.

I don't see why they need to bump the iBook to a G4 along with the PowerBook.

It seemed rather logical when they bumped the PowerMac to a G5 while the iMac and eMac stayed with a G4 for a few months.

I didn't consider the chart true at all. My specualtion was just guessing. I forgot to make clear that I do not believe that Apple will release iBooks with G5 at the same time with the Powerbooks.

Haha yeah it seems digitimes did actually make it. Still don't think its true though. If it was though it would sure break a history of delayed ibooks.

I second the "whatever" to the G5 iBook. SpyMac is a whole lot of BS.
