So here we are, the poll you've all been waiting for... I know it's designed for switchers, but I was wondering if anyone here has ordered or is going to order a Mac Mini.

Depending on the financial rewards of 2005 I am thinking about getting one for the parents back in the old country. Throw in a year's worth of high speed and get them onto iChat AV.
It'll stop my mum from complaining about never seeing her son and daughter in law. I hope.

I ordered the Mac mini merely minutes after it was finally open to order.

I also have a forum opening dedicated to the Mac mini. Plan on giving a detailed report of the components once the surgery goes underway. I hope to see MacNN members visit.

I've got too many computers already. I can't think of a single reason why 'd need one. Believe me, I'm bummed about that fact.

Safari can’t open the page “http://www.macminiforums.com/” because it can’t find the server “www.macminiforums.com”.

Try the sig, I guess a moderator here doesn't want the URL posted. I can understand why, but I have no idea why the initial link didn't work.

The site is working perfect right now.

I could use one of those for testing Web pages, but I'll wait until it comes with Tiger preinstalled.

I'm getting one.

Now all I need to do is create a cool new sig that will incorporate the Mac mini... any takers?

I'm waiting for it to go on discount for Apple employees so my friend can get me one.

Nope, the Mac mini forums link in your sig doesn't work either. That's because it sends you to www.macminiforums.com, which apparently isn't the proper address. I entered www.macminiforum.com, and it took me to the right place. And also changed the address bar to www.macminiforums.com/forums. Not sure what the deal is with that.

As for me... I won't be getting one. I don't have a Mac right now, but when I do get another one it will either be a laptop or my main machine. And the mini would simply not work as a main machine. The hard drive space in particular is what would keep me from using it as a main machine. Next Mac I get, if I am to use it as my main machine, I want to be able to move my 250 GB SATA drive into it. Wouldn't hurt if I could also move my 2x512 MB of RAM into it too.

I'm rather surprised... I expected that most on MacNN would not be interested in a Mini... so far 17 out of 28 said that they would get one eventually.

I would like to know the reason for the one person (so far) whom voted "I think the whole idea is stupid".

Just curious.

Yet hesitating... Full blown mini with a 20" Cinema Display... The 20" is awesome...

It's very nice and a good sequel to the Cube, but I dumped desktops back in August 2003 when I bought my Powerbook. My only upgrade path is now in the portables line, as I love just having one system with all my stuff.

Though... depending on how well the syncing works in Tiger, one might be too hard to resist to have sitting on my desk.

Saying you'll buy something and actually buying it are not the same.

Especially when it costs hundreds of dollars.

However, that line is narrower compared to the days when desktops were no less than $1200.

I will get one for my birthday next month.

I am looking forward to have this thing complement my PB12.

I was contemplating the purchase of an iMac G5 20", but since I already have an Apple 20" LCD, the whole idea was stretching my wallet too much.

It really comes at the right time for me, and my gaming needs are rather limited. But as a multimedia server, that will do.

I also know that some PCs were made about that size; with Linux on it, that was also a possibility now that I am better at the CLI. But I prefer getting an Apple.

I am going to get the 1.42 GHz, 80Mb HD 512 Mb, Airport and Bluetooth.

True, but $500 is still not quite within impulse buy range.

I see no compelling reason as I have 3 laptops. Never owned a desktop once and probably never will. I'm sure I could definitely convince my dept. to upgrade their old beiges, G3s, and early G4s.

I want to get one for my brother. His PC crashes all the time. He has the keyboard, mouse and monitor already so it's inevitable.

It resolved when I deleted the www and added a /forums after the url in you sig:

http://macminiforums.com/forums/

You might want to edit that.

Ordered the day after it was announced.

1.25 GHz - 489 Euro
80 GB HD - 50 Euro
Standard RAM
Mouse, Keyboard - 54 Euro

Ordering 1 GB RAM Stick when I get the shipping approval. Will cost me 179 Euro.

I have a CRT that does the trick for me until I can afford a 17" or 18" TFT.

I'm upgrading from an iBook G3 900 MHz, so I will see a substantial speed boost. 1 GHz+ is enough for me. I don't get the point: A designer that does PS and InDesign still can provide very good work with a 1.25 GHz G4, which was still sold by Apple 1 1/2 years ago. And with 1 Gig of RAM it will be fine. A faster HD would be handsome, but my financial limits are narrow. I will get an iBook G5 next, whenever this is released.

It's on temp. redirect until the CMS portal comes in... I would rather not have people use the /forums as an entry path.

Thanks for visiting, thoughts?

I don't plan on purchasing a Mac mini, prefer to get a G5.

Same planet I'm on. I tried for a few hours to dream up a justification for a mini, and couldn't do it. Maybe when my trusty kitchen residing iMac eventually dies... or not. Then the iBook will rotate into the kitchen and I could buy a G5 or dual core G4 PowerBook. Sadly, I don't ever see myself getting one. But they look way nifty.

I will be buying one for a friend who is a Pastor of the Church I attend.

He has the first version of the iBook that came with a firewire port. Recently the firewire port has died and with the HD being only 10 GB he has been unable to use an external FW drive I bought him a couple years ago. It's served him well, but he has been needing a little bit more CPU power recently and would also desire the ability to burn DVDs. In other words, it's time for a new computer for him.

Someone is donating a 15" LCD and he already has a USB keyboard and Mouse he uses with the iBook at his desk so he is all set on that.

I am buying the 1.42 GHz Superdrive version for him. The main thing we will be looking at is whether or not to order it with more RAM or to see if we can open it up our selves easily and replace the 256 MB stick with something larger. I have built systems in the past and even gutted and fixed a few iMacs in my day so If it is user-serviceable at all we will go the RAM at a later date route.

I tried the kitchen thought on for size, but I've got a Powerbook and Airport. Damn.

I could use a few friends on here.

The main reason I am getting him a Mac mini is because he is a minister and I believe he is very biblically based and extremely intelligent about it. Plus he needs a new computer soon. If you're in the same boat I would consider it.
