Yeah, I saw some bootleg footage of this earlier on iFilm.com. Looks OK, but you know what? Marvel Comics is really making a killing off of licensing their intellectual properties.

They have had:

Blade 1, 2, and 3
X-Men 1 and 2
Spiderman 1 and 2
Hulk
Daredevil
Punisher
Elektra

and now the Fantasic Four and rumors say there is going to be a Ghost Rider and Iron Man.

Don't suppose they'll show the connections with the Inhumans, Galactus, the Kree/Skrull war, etc.. There's far more depth to the FF than there is with Spiderman or even the X-Men, they'll really have to hack it to pieces to make it fit into 2 hour blocks.

Oh well, too much time reading comics when I was a kid... just setting myself up for disappointment.

That's an interesting opinion. If we're only talking about villains, I'd probably agree. That's about it, though. Spider-Man is a deeper (and better) character than anyone in the FF.

BTW, despite what Marvel would have us believe, Peter Parker's scientific accomplishments are every bit as impressive as those of Reed Richards. Unstable molecules are fantastic (pun intended), but Peter invented his super-strong webbing (and web shooters) as a sixteen year old (to say nothing of designing and sewing the comics' greatest costume). Peter would be the most underrated genius in Marvel if it weren't for Hank Pym, who figured out how to communicate with insects, discovered Pym Particles (which allow things to shrink or grow by transferring matter to another dimension), and created artificial life (in the form of Ultron).

trailer looks neat. i never read much fantastic 4, don't know much of the story line, so at least i won't be analyzing it like some of the other marvel movies.

either apple's site or the trailers needs to be changed. one says july 1, other says july 4

I'd like to see Hanna Barbera milking their action heros. I'd bet The Impossibles would be a big hit

I would be pumped about it if the Thing didn't look like a guy in a chessy foam rubber suit.

A Sub Mariner film is also in the works (in addition to Ghost Rider & Iron Man, along with another Spider Man and another X-Men).

You mean as opposed to a guy simply looking like a chunk of cheese?

I tripped across the trailer this morning and was pretty excited to see it. Been a lot of years since I've read a Fantastic 4 comic. If I remember correctly, didn't The Thing and Torch have a pretty combative relationship (sort of like a superhero version of The Odd Couple)?

Me no likey. The Thing especially, although I like Michael Chiklis. That make-up looks like bad psoriasis.

And Dr. Doom looks really scrawny.

Mother of what? Sue Storm-Richards doesn't have kids for a while -- though I don't know if that will be part of the movie. Johnny is her brother, and Ben (aka The Thing) is just a friend.

So I have no idea what "mother" you're talking about.

...and I'll agree with everyone else: The Thing looks like The Crap. The guy playing Reed is the only one that has any resemblance tot he comic character -- though it looks like they gave Alba blonde hair, at least. Johnny Storm doesn't look "pretty-boy"/cheap car salesman enough -- but the trailer seems to show him doing a full flame-on rather than just his hands (as was previously reported was to be the case).

My guess?

It will suck, just like Daredevil and The Punisher.

I prefer the version that was on Venture Bros. last week where every time that fire guy bursts into flames he runs around in circles screaming "It burns".

If they didn't want to try and pull of the "walking pile of orange rocks" look for the thing (which would probably be silly looking on film), at least use the ff issue #1 Kirby design that had extremely rough and lumpy skin, but didn't have the appearance of rocks.

Show looks good, but the Thing looks cheap.

Sure, but she's a bit too young looking to fit the role of the comic book character... after all, Reed had white sideburns for crying out loud...
