Seems like all the iMacs, Powerbooks, Mac Minis and iPods are now made in China. Does Apple still make any systems in the USA? How about the big iron like the XServe or Powermac?

Some stuff (mostly for the European market, obviously) is produced in their factory in Cork, Ireland.

I think G5 Powermacs are for those in the US, we Europeans get ours from Ireland.

No idea why these aren't made in the far East also?

The other day I pulled out my Power Mac G4 (Gigabit) out from under my desk to wipe off the dust and noticed on the back it said, "Assembled in USA." The parts that make up the machine are probably made in China or somewhere else, but the computer was put together in the USA.

Every box reads "Designed by Apple in Cupertino, CA".

When they write something else, then it is time to start worrying.

Designing is the new manufacturing.

I think it's just cheaper to manufacture in China. It has been for a while. Then again why would I care... I'm Canadian

Pity that some people assume that the rest of the world is stupid and can't cope with R&D activities.

I didn't mean THAT. Those were my words of comfort for the original poster, who obviously aspires to get a job in a Mac assembly line. (j/K)
