Lexus cars with the Bluetooth phone integration are catching viruses. Now, I'm just speculating on this, but... maybe Windows isn't the best operating system for a car?

BMW learned their lesson when they recalled tens of thousands of their cars running Windows when the doors, hood, and trunk would unexpectedly open & close.

I doubt it's that widespread and it only seems to affect the GPS system.

Still, Windows in a car is just a horrifying idea!

I can not grasp why they even would think about using Windows, it's not that it would be hard to develop a basic in house OS for your cars.

Because Microsoft gives it to them for free.

The first time someone dies in a car crash because the computer in the car running Windows was infected with a virus, the car maker will be sued for choosing Windows as the operating system... mark my words.

Cheaper to hire windows programmers than it is to roll your own. This is why everything from printers to diebold ATMs (yes, all those wells fargo ATMs with the candy-ass interface you keep hitting the wrong button on) run windows.

Heck, if you ride bart a lot, you might find one of the ticket sales machines crashed one day with a BSOD on it. I hate it too.

Call me old fashioned, but I really don't see the need for an OS in a car.
