I was doing some research online, or well trying to anyway, because I was thinking, you know within the next few years I'll probably be upgrading my Fujifilm finepix 2600 to something better, that said I'm not sure which brands I should look at etc. I might even consider a digital SLR. That said, does anyone know of any really good sites that explain the differences between the different image processors and all that makes a camera have a good picture, because I obviously don't want to buy based on how many Mega Pixels it has. Especially since I have done some night time shots that always turn out really craptastic so I'd like to know how I can get a camera I can learn to use a bit better.

Digital Photography Review isn't a bad place to start. They do half decent reviews and have a glossary of terms. Not sure how much good researching right now is going to do unless you plan on buying a camera soon, tho.

What he said.
Basically it goes like this:
- digital image sensors in point and shoot digital cameras are mostly all the same.
- in DSLRs they are much better, and there are a couple of different kinds. DPReview will explain the differences.

And the sensor is only one part of it. The lens is prob one of the more important factors, shutter and light control too.

Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.

Like Athen said, if youre going to buy a DSLR and spend upwards of $1000 on a digital camera, don't skimp on the lens, get the best lens you can afford. Buying a dslr and getting the cheapest lens (or kit lens, though I've heard good reviews from the D70's kit lens) is like buying a DP2.5ghz G5 and only putting 128mb of RAM on it.

A thousand bucks? hoi bah... ok maybe not for a few years haha
I was kinda looking at one of the cheaper ones, I've seen a few ones like a higher end Fujifilm that was more than a 5 MP one despite being only 3 MP itself. Canon's commercials all talk about their DIGC chip or whatever, is that any better than the other ones used in other cameras or is Canon just being good marketers?
