I have heard lots of stuff and figured this was a good place to check. why do you think that windows will put Mac out of buisness? Or will it? I have read many things on the internet about longhorn being so much better than os x.

Longhorn is playing catch up to the current OS X, by the time longhorn is released OS X will already be improved beyond it.

Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.

Microsoft could easily make a kick-ass OS, and they already have a few times over in their labs. The problem is that, with their HUGE marketshare, their OS's have to support legacy applications and hardware. The one thing they strived so hard for - marketshare - is now their biggest curse.
Apple, on the other hand, had such a small user base that it was able develop a new OS (X) practically from scratch. They built-in Classic (OS 9) emultaion, and were able to transition its base over to the modern OS X.
Microsoft bought Connectix (Virtual PC) a year or two ago, so they now have the technology and staff (unless the Connectix folks all quit) to produce Windows emulation. That would take care of much of the legacy problem. I just don't know that they are approaching their OS-building that way, though I am dumbfounded as to why they would buy Connectix otherwise.
I for one would like to see Microsoft produce a killer OS, because I like the competition within the PC world. The one problem I have with Apple is that their systems are so closed. I can't go out and build my own pseudo-mac for the price of parts, choosing and customizing each ingredient as I see fit. I like how in the WIndows world, this can be done.

Would you care to link to some of these "many things"? Note that anything by Paul Thurrott should be considered fraudulent out of hand.
