The "advertisement" takes 15 seconds - I timed it - and it's about a cute little dog.

Support Salon, will ya?

Sheesh!

The article is worth reading.

I think it's good so far. I went through the advertisement (painless people, painless). I then read the first page and went to print it, and Firefox(on my PC at work) bombed. Looks like I'll have to read the rest later. Thanks for the link

from the article
The Mac is not just good at these few tasks: It's the best there is. There's simply no arguing that Apple's built-in software and operating system make for the single most powerful photo, music and movie system you can buy.
How can you not read the rest of it?

Ok I got through the whole article this time.

It's definitely a keeper. This piece was well written and thought out. I didn't feel as if it was slanted one way or another. One cannot argue with the truth or the facts of the matter. I had to print a copy for my own copy for people to read and see that there is creedence to what I say about Apple and the Mac.

Long live Apple!

The whole thing smells of RDF.

And the Visa commercial is cute - and short - about a dog eating the mail.

It's worth it.

Except that it makes the assumption that Macs are the world's best computers. Not arguing with that, just saying that it doesn't sound like the author's all that impartial.

Granted, but I think the author made good points as to why the PC industry took the path it took. He also presents the idea that each has it's purpose, only one is better suiting their users needs and those users who are yet to come.

I was glad to see the author, after dancing around it, finally make the point that I have been making for a few years: a surge in marketshare will surely result in a surge in malware.

He even touched on the notion that Apple may hold back from advertising its security advantage for fear of encouraging hackers worldwide to penetrate the system.

I'm one of the few here who enjoys our small little marketshare. The platform's great right where it is as far as I'm concerned.

virus's maybe. but there would have to be a whole new kind of spyware i mean with unix based systems you can see all applications that are running at all time. its not like windows when you can have hidden apps running. i agree i'm a little nervous but mac os x is coded a whole different way. lets hope its a less vulnerable way.

I just had to quote this.

I hope so too. I just forsee some of the hacking world's greatest minds working round-the-clock to revolutionize unix-based infiltration, particularly of the OS X varietal.
