Direct from Intel is exactly half that price, though there's a limit of 2. http://inteleval.ententeweb.com/prod...ibe_news_nt_hd

At any rate, that MSRP price is at least $1000 overpriced. (Mac user markup?)

I had a problem with SAMBA, errno 22 (invalid something). It would happen all the time, usually with a high load. Watching the logs, it appeared that Windows was disconnecting itself, then wondering why it couldn't save, and it would not reconnect. SAMBA mailing list archives said basically that it was a problem with crappy ethernet cards, IOW the Realtek and SMC kinda things I keep finding for <10$ everywhere.

So I bought a card just below the one mentioned in this thread, all the bells/whistles an ethernet card can have, expensive but problem solved. Until last week of course. Really high load, everything goes down. Good old networking ;-)

This insanity brought to you by:
The French CBC, driving antenna users mad since 1937.
