Don't know how many of you read the BBC online, or have been following the travails of this man, but he died yesterday after a two-plus year battle with brain cancer. He was a techie and gadget junkie, like many of us, and although I never met the man I am saddened by this not unexpected news. He was 37 years old and left behind a wife and two children.
The story of his death can be found here.
A tribute from a BBC colleague can be found here.
He kept an online journal of his experiences with brain cancer. The last piece, along with links to all his previous columns, can be found here.
Rest in Peace, Ivan.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

I've been following his journal for a while now, and was greatly saddened to hear of his death yesterday. He dealt with his cancer in a very honest way, communicating his feelings with great honesty. Judging from the comments on his columns over the last 2 years, many people have found strength and courage from his writing, and others have found the abiility to discuss their own cancer fights more openly.
Cancer is often seen as something that shouldn't be discussed, a bit of a taboo. Ivan's legacy may well be that he brought the subject a little further out into the mainstream and that has to be a good thing.
Rest in peace now Ivan, you deserve it.
J.
