50 7-11s across Singapore are now carrying iPods. Just stopped at the one by where I'm staying for a Vanilla Coke and they had 4 1GB shuffles available.

Frankly speaking, I think it's a dumb idea... it's like taking a Mac and dumping them at Wal-mart for sale.
Yes, the idea might actually work, but I feel that Apple stuff should be sold at those "real" Apple Stores.
I guess it's all about the "Mac ego" or somethin'.

I've heard, and I may be wrong, that 7-11's are much different overseas than they are in America. Over here they are dumpy and a place to get a slurpy. Overseas they are like really stand-up establishments, can anyone back me up on this?

A few Wally Worlds are selling iPods, IIRC.

In Taiwan, they are sometimes dumpy too, but a heluvalot less dumpy than how some of the other stores there often are. It's all relative I guess. But still, I wouldn't expect to see an iPod shuffle at a 7/11 in Taiwan.
What are the Singapore 7/11's like?
NB: My local hole-in-the-wall PC computer store sells iPod minis. Now THAT place is dumpy, and it's in Toronto. ie. It seems Apple has no probs selling iPods to dumpy stores.

And why not. It gets the brand out there, makes it a comman thing to see one and then want one, and even one iPod sold at a 7/11 makes Apple money and the vendor. Although, here in the states I can't imagine going into 7/11 and being like:
"Yeah give me a pack of the Marlboro Reds, a slurpy....(looks around behind the counter)....a scratcher....Oooo and an iPod Shuffle"
Mostly because I don't smoke ;-)

wasn't one of the main factors of Sony's marketing genious in the 90s that they put their players in plastic convenient packages and sold jillions because they hung off store hooks from assmart to walmart?
i mean, at $100 bucks... who cares? sell one and boom! instant profit.

It's a stupid idea because it's kinda weird spending $100+ at a gas station.

Actually I think it has more to do with a business called Apple that is looking for profit and wanting to increase market share. All companies end goal is money.

7-11s here don't sell gas. Besides, it gets the brand out. Would you rather hear of Creative selling its players instead?

S$268, same as AppleStore so no markup. Took MRT subway to the gym and back today and stopped in 2 other 7-11s and they also had shuffles. All have been 1GB models.
