I was doing a search on my own name, and I came up with this thread on China-Defence.com.
The pic is one I took of the Globe & Mail front page.
I'm tempted to stick a pr0n pic in there...

porn is too easy.
do something more creative.
some 14 year old girl on livejournal used one of my images as a background image! i had a lot of fun with that, even after i tracked her down and told her to remove it.

When I posted some pics of pablo on my website and here, I suddenly noticed my site bandwidth increasing dramatically. People had been using him as background images on websites, logos, forum sigs (!!) and more.
I was tempted to remove or change the picture. But I thought I would share the Pablo love so he remains as a public service to make people smile

ok ok, here's the story:
one day last year i noticed a bunch of referrals from livejournal. upon closer examination, it seemed that they were using one of images (a headache inducing one at that. no, seriously) for their background image. so i looked at the site, found their contact info (and discovered that it was a 14 year old girl who was feeling 'depressed' the previous day), and sent her an IM. this was her one chance to change the image before i messed with it.
well, she didn't know what image leeching meant, or how to change it, and she disappeared halfway thru our conversation because her mom called her away from the computer. so screw that, i had an audience ready to watch me have my fun. so i contact a bunch of my friends and tell them to watch the page.
background image #1 - homestarrunner beanie
#2 - greatest american hero
#3 - old people dancing
#4 - a pulsating animated gif
#5 - a hippo
#6 - a crying smiley (animated)
at this point a more devious friend of mine has a bright idea. now, i don't have a proper screenshot on this machine, so you're going to have to pretend the middle section of text is normal 14 year old ramblings and not a copy of what is on the right:
i replaced the background image so that it appeared she had two columns of inane teenage blather instead of one. on the left she had the typical problems facing a teenager. on the right she encounters a problem with her toes. i was going to make it....funnier, but i didn't want the bad karma points from making some 14 year old girl cry when the boy she likes reads about her newly contracted VD or something.
anyway, the lesson here is that you should get a bunch of images together to use, tell people you're doing it, and then have a reloading party with them. oh, and don't IM 14 year old girls if you want to avoid smilies and OMG OMG!!11!! ROTFLM14YOAO!

When I started going through my server logs last year, I noticed a bunch of images getting leeched on a number of forums, blogs, etc. Since I wasn't using the images on my own site anymore, I immediately changed them to something far nastier.
The trick to good image bombing is to make sure that YOU aren't using it anywhere as well, like, say, here.

The leeching per se doesn't really bother me, if it has low readership. Actually, they're not even leeching it. It's just linked. It's just that the rest of the site looks kinda whacked. If it was just some standard forum it'd be fine with me, but this one seems quite weird. Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be too many hits to it...

How are you able to find out these referrals? (My bandwidth on imagebucket is higher than usually.)

Pablo rules, but I promise I'll copy the img to my desktop before I use it for Personal Gain©.

You goy off terrorizing a 14 year old girl on the internet? And you call us pathetic when we get into fights and you come in and lock a thread?

feeling especially petty today?
she never even saw any of the changes i made to her page. she leeched my image, i changed it, i changed it back, she edited it out the next day. no terror involved.
and here i thought george bush had a monopoly on working the word "terror" into everything.
p.s. the IM'ing comment was because i found it difficult to communicate with her. it was almost as if we were speaking different versions of english. it didn't help that she had no idea what a jpg was.

Photobucket does not let you see each referral nor the stats for each individual image. If you have your own site, however, you probably have some nifty stats package that allows you to see just that sort of information.
EDIT: I have a few femme pictures on my site that tend to get linked every so often. I get a little over a quarter of TB of bandwidth, so I don't care too much about a few (<10) pictures getting linked and ultimately generating a couple of hundred MBs of bandwidth each. Now, I understand the principle of this whole deal (i.e., you shouldn't steal bandwidth), but I'm just too lazy to do anything about it.

He's a pomeranian-chiwawa (try spelling that without thinking for moment). And the most popular picture of him that did the rounds it seems was this one.

Personally I would have gone out of my way to HELP a 14 year old girl but to each his own I guess
But ya, petty.
