Super Bowl ads are very expensive. I hope they get their money back by selling more.

I like the Mustang Convertible and FedEx/Kinkos commercials the best thus far...

4 notes:

Olympus Camera/Music Player:
You'd think making a commercial like this you can't go wrong. but this euro-trash sounding commercial really turns me off. the "dancing" seems off. it certainly doesn't make me want to buy a camera. and doesn't every digital camera ad use than "picture" into the cam lcd concept already?

Robots (the computer animated movie):
looks better than "Cars" by Pixar at this point.

Napster commercial:
it makes sense! have an iPod? how much money does it take for you to fill that mofo up? 10,000 vs. $15 per month. not like i would get one but hey this commercial makes sense.

Bud:
they lost it... they're a joke. whoever buys that ****, stop buying it already please.

"Superbowl XXXVIII is brought to you by Napster, the biggest brand in digital music."

Huh? Biggest? In what way? People have forgotten about Napster as a file sharing service and most people don't even realize that it exists today as a legal service. How do you measure the size of a brand? Shouldn't it be measured by sales? Napster's really got issues there.

Yeah but stop subscribing or Napster goes out of business and *poof* -- your entire collection annihilated!

I'll own my music, thankyouverymuch.

Yeah, but like someone else said in another thread, having Napster for a whole year amounts to $180, or 180 songs on iTMS that you actually own, and can burn to CDs, etc. If you want to buy more than 180 songs a year and don't mind losing all your music if you ever miss your monthly payment to Napster, then sure, it's a good deal for you.

I don't know, that first commercial with the skydivers was pretty damn funny. I wasn't expecting the pilot to jump out. The Kinko's/FedEx commercial was my favorite.

Robots (the computer animated movie):

I wasn't too impressed with Robots commercial. Funny you should mention Pixar. Almost everyone at the superbowl party I attended thought Robots was a new Pixar movie.

Ohpps - missed the part at the end. Not a bad idea for that.

I loved the two commercials about not judging right away. I liked the one with the convenience store and the "You're getting robbed." better than the other one, but only slightly. They were both really good.

FedEx Kinko's

Anyone else think the commercials were not very creative, and some tried too hard to be good and ended up awful?

Overall, I give the ads a 2/10 this year.

The skydiving Budweiser, the cat in spaghetti sauce, and maybe 2 or 3 other ads were good. The rest were shite.

Ahhhh yes. The cat in spaghetti sauce was my second favorite. But besides the funny ones, you have to give credit to Anheuser-Busch for spending money on the ad dedicated to the troops returning home.

What he said.

Other fav I'm surprised no-one here mentioned was the one for GoDaddy.com, w/the hot chick testifying before Congress.

The cat in the spaghetti sauce spot was damn funny, too.

The Pepsi/iTunes spot was disappointing. It's not that the commercial was bad. It just wasn't Super Bowl commercial material. Pepsi usually has a huge Super Bowl presence. They didn't do anything memorable this year.

Too bad Apple won't push the Mac mini or OS X in a creative spot. It's like they're not even a computer company anymore. </cliche>

Viva consumer electronics, I guess!

The best, IMO. We laughed for 5 minutes over that one. Overall, though, it was a weak showing.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the Budweiser "Wardrobe Malfunction" ad that was banned.

I agree. iPod crap is everywhere. But no OS X stuff. Sometimes some iMac thing. Other G5 ads in magazines. But no commercials. How do they expect marketshare to rise if they do not advertise (on TV)?
