Well that was an interesting project, even if just for kicks.

You're missing the point.

Anyway, check this:
My original intent was to actually install OS X on the RAID and boot from that, but the OS X (Panther, 10.3.5) Installer wouldn't allow installation onto the RAID array, either as a Strip or Mirror set. After restoring the Shuffles to their original configuation, I tried the OS X Installer again and even the Shuffle itself would not allow OS X to be installed on it, possibly due to how the volume itself is made available to the OS.

I've got to beat this.

I'm gonna get twenty 512MB Shuffles and cluster a whopping 9Gig Raid across 6 USB hubs. Yeah, baby. And then install a Linux build to run my car stereo with a Mac mini.

Out geek that!
When you were young and your heart was an open book, you used to say "live and let live."
But if this ever changing world, in which we live in, makes you give in and cry, say "live and let die."

When I read the title I was expecting an action packed story about 3 guys in ski-masks raiding an apple store and only stealing ipod shuffles... or something crazy like that... maybe a delivery-truck car-jacking involving a semi-truck full of nothing but ipod shuffles... or a guys holding an ipod shuffle to someones back and saying its a gun, so he can rob a quick-e-mart... etc.

This story was a major dissapointment ... not enough action.

It still doesn't top the geek factor of the USB floppy RAID (the same page also shows the flash card RAID the guy did).

Well, I don't mean to point out holes in your plan, but if I were you, I'd go with woman instead, if you want to build a wife from iPods...
