I'm sure a lot of you (at least Americans) have grown up with the movie The Sandlot.

This is one of the greatest kids movie ever. A kid moves into a new neighborhood and forms new friendships with other neighborhood kids by playing baseball with them.

Could you imagine a movie like this that has to do with American fatball? I can't, because it wouldn't be the same. There is no treasured football movie. There is absolutely nothing cultural, mystical, or historically significant about American fatball. It symbolizes the ugly side of American culture.

We Americans should be proud of the light of American culture, history and significant achievements. Baseball, higher education, the Constitution, Jazz (Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra), New Orleans, skyscrapers, the Marshall Plan. There's nothing about fatball to be proud of.

I'll take any of you fatball fans on

Baseball has a different feel to it. To me that feeling is overwhelming boredom. I don't much like football either for that matter but I don't really see that you have a valid complaint. So there is no warm fuzzy football movie. Big deal if football is a contact sport (not violent though).

I would recommend every steer clear of rising to this most obvious flame bait.

Watching baseball is the athletic equivalent to watching sap run down a tree trunk - went to a Phillies game once - almost three fscking hours, man I just wanted to die.

sandlot worked mostly because of the time period it was in. Growing up I never played baseball with friends outside of peewee games. Football was a game you could play with less people and still be fun. So was basketball. I am not saying you are wrong about the movie thing. I am just putting it out there I enjoyed playing football and basketball way more and so did my friends. You never see any kids playing baseball and recess (kickball does not count)
Diztantendz coming soon...

How about Vince Lombardi? The guy is said to have been a genius, not only on the field but also in "real" life. Some of his quotes:

The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.

If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.

In great attempts it is glorious even to fail.

The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.

Winning is not a sometime thing; its an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit.

The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.

Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal.

Winning isn't everything, it is the only thing.

We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time.
That last one is one of my favorites

American football = rugby, except you throw the ball the wrong way and wear a suit of armour

Baseball = rounders, except men play it as well as girls

Basketball = netball except [see baseball explanation]

Come up with something original why don't you?

I don't like american football but I enjoyed Rudy, but if I had to choose a football movie it would be "Any Given Sunay" with Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx, and James Woods, great film.

That only came out in 1993. The Bad News Bears is more appropriate for a lot of us.

Nothing beats the thrill of....................KABADDI!

http://www.contactpakistan.com/sports/misc/news08.htm

"It is really a nice to hear the special words phrazes like , mar kenchi, pa jhapha, taroul mar soo, jan nan dain soo etc. These are the common words of Punjabi language spoken and uttered by the spectators standing and sitting outside the ring. Believe you me you enjoy more Kabaddi match with such slogans. Any way this match was Organized by Mohammad Siddiqu Gujar of Pir Mahal. The match was played between two teams "Gujran-Sialko Vs Gujar Khan" The match was won by Gujrat-Sialkot by 11 points. Gujran secured 25 points whereas Gojar Khan 14 points only. Tariq Faisalabadi was the match referee. Shabbir captained the Gujrat-Sialkot team and Riaz Butt lead the Gojar Khan team."

Bah! Those movies can't compete with Necessary Roughness staring Scott Bakula, Sinbad and Kathy Ireland.

I'll stick with "Little Giants" for comparison sake to the Sandlot.

But the best football movie is....

is....

is....

Oh let's pick "Wildcats" cuz it was so dumb. But for serious- it's Any Given Sunday and Rudy.

Liking the Longest Yard and the remake due out this spring...

What was the question again?

Football. Straight up. We played in the grass, on concrete and any place else we could find. But of course, nothing could beat the magical two minute drive you and your best friend pulled off with a foot of snow on the ground, a stiff wind and the snow falling to win the SuperBowl!

</end glorious childhood memories>

North Dallas Forty hasn't been mentioned, Written by a former tight end for the Dallas Cowboys. Any Given Sunday has its moments.

You can download the audio of the playoffs and Super Bowl, not the World Series.

Anyway, to the original poster ...

No cheerleaders for baseball.

You just sound bitter. Probably got kicked off the frosh team, eh?

Sports films suck in general. I did like Field of Dreams and A League of Their Own, but neither of them had much to do with sports IMHO.
