I would like to take this opportunity to thank the old Napster for introducing me to actual music back in 1999/2000 when before then I had only been listening to Europop crap because that's all that was available at CD stores. Thanks to Napster, I discovered real bands like Greenday, Korn, REM and Offspring and worked my way up from there. I downloaded lots of jazz which helped with my music studies, as well as tons of classical. If it hadn't been for Napster, I would have still been listening to Eurotrash exclusively.

Anyone long for the Macster days? It was so easy to download stuff. I remember PR2 where practically everything was "Unimplemented" and then they fixed it with PR3 and Napster became cool again. I can't believe Macster/Napster was programmed with RealBasic!

Anyway, the point of this thread is to show what the word Napster really means to you, and to remind people that the modern-day version of Napster is a perversion of the true legacy left to the internet community by Napster and P2P downloads.

Yes Indeed. The Napster was wonderful in its day. Quick, small and reliable, and downloading songs at anytime, whatever you wanted was a hell of a lot of fun. A sign of a quality application in my opinion is as you use it you feel powerful. Napster did that fo sho. Big up to Shawn Fanning.

Liar!

What if somebody steals music I purchased on CD out of my car; however, I hunt them down (using bow & arrow) and steal it back?

It's not always illegal.

Actually, if you steal something back that was stolen from you, that is illegal.

copyright infringement needs to be proved in court. as they say, "innocent until proven guilty". copyright is tricky because there are various interpretations.

breaking the law such as passing a red light or speeding can be fined instantly because the definitions are absolute.

as of the late 90s and early 00s, the music copyright infringement was not as defined as after the fallout

Here's to all the thousands of Z-102's all across the bleak radio landscape! Your race to the bottom in pursuit of the lowest common denominator forced me on to the intenet to seek new music, and I forgot to properly thank you!

Here's to Apple, for picking up where the real Napster left off.

When a true genius appears in the world you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. -- Jonathan Swift.

Amen. I know I'm dropping a dollar every time I download a song from iTMS, but it truly reminds me of the ease and efficiency of the Napster days.

I buy a heck of a lot more music since the Napster/iTunes MS days... Napster got me interested in music again, and now with ITMS it's just too easy to get music - why bother to go to the store any more.

I just wish Apple would start putting up stuff by the artists I like again, they launched with a bunch and have since added very little. The inspirational page hasn't changed for like a month.
