I hate it when a vendor sends me an order confirmation and a tracking number and when I click on the link to the shipper with that number, their website doesn't recognize it! I just hate that. I wish vendors would only provide me with a tracking number after it is valid.

I had to get this off my chest.

In that same vein, I would like to know how many miles away the package is, and the speed of the driver in real time. I also want its position in the truck, and how many stops the truck has to make before it gets to my house.

The number is generated for the vendor, but not yet recognized by the shipping companies tracking system. No big deal. It hasn't shipped yet anyway.

You folks are stating the obvious while simultaneously missing my point. I know it means the package hasn't shipped yet. All I'm saying is, maybe their system could check the link for validity before sending it to me.

I think you are asking too much. If it hasn't shipped and you know it, why try to track it?

Again, missing the point entirely. I dislike this for the same reason we dislike broken links on a webpage. If I said, "Why do you care? If a link is broken, just don't click it!" I would be roundly criticized.

Yes, I know it probably won't work yet. But I still click it anyway because once in a while there's a miracle. Anyway, it bugs me, okay??!! If you don't sympathize or think I'm overreacting, then ... well, go jump in a lake.
