Ok- gotta submit my portfolio for grad school. Supposing that it's digital what program would you use? I have Powerpoint and Keynote and can export in several formats... any experience or thoughts?

pdf.
make sure you test your file with acrobat reader (not preview) before sending it off - preview often makes pdf's look "better" due to its superior anti-aliasing of bitmap graphics (an option you have to set seperately in acrobat reader).
if you have access to acrobat professional you could also set certain viewing prefs when re-saving the file - e.g., initial zoom (so your bitmaps look better), visibility of bookmarks, toolbars, etc., start in presentation mode (full screen), etc., etc.
if you do set "fancy" (fullscreen) viewing prefs in acrobat, make sure you mention that in your correspondence - many users are confused when a pdf file starts up in full screen view and often they don't have a clue how to get back to the regular view (esc key.)

Delivering a PDF ist much more professional than delivering a PowerPoint file.

i find this to be very important, because a lot of times people don't have a clue as to how the acrobat reader works, and your document just looks "different" at 200% zoom. first impressions are very important.
oh, and definitley .pdf. don't ever "just assume" people have office installed (it'll make you look like a pc user )

Well that's pretty unanimous. I do have Professional- so, I'll keep the settings in mind. I better get to work... Thanks for the input.
I'll make sure it is potable as well as portable!

You say you have PowerPoint. I'd recommend exporting from Keynote to PowerPoint, and checking it in PowerPoint to make sure it works properly. If it does, then submit both the PowerPoint and PDF formats. Otherwise, submit only the PDF.

Yes- I'll probably begin in Keynote, but I'm going to do some test exports before going too far. So much to do!
