and I wondered what to do with it. I was walking through a parking lot near a dorm when I picked this up. Except there's only one chip there. I wondered what it's worth by itself and whether it's worth finding the owner, I'll probably put up some signs or something, but they will be vague. I know if I lost this much RAM, I'd like it back.

Test it, memtest86. If you buy bad RAM and can't take it back, you can just toss it on the ground. If you advertise free RAM, someone will take it.

Turn the RAM into fashion; create a necklace or bracelet out of the RAM. You'll look fantastic, I mean ramtastic

On an unrelated note, I was walking through this parking lot and seemed to have dropped a stick of CORSAIR XMS Xtreme Memory Speed Series, Xtra-Low Latency 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 w/ Platinum Heat Spreader, Model TWINX1024-3200XLPT - Retail
if someone happens to see that just send it my way

Just throw it out, and DO NOT test it. Bad ram can screw up your motherboard. Its not worth it. It was prob chucked for a reason.

I don't really have any way to test it, cause all I have access to is a new iBook, older iMac, and a Sawtooth G4. The only macs that would use this are the G5's/iMac G5's right?

I have lots of 40pin I could use, high quality 1mb sticks at that! I'd have to use them in pairs though.
I forget that people don't have PCs to test hardware. Anyone without a sacreficial K6 or PIII is not a geek ;-)

In the lab I think I've still got the malfunctioning crash-on-a-stick RAM chip lying around somewhere that I pulled from a computer that was acting very flaky some time ago. Maybe it would be amusing to leave it lying in a prominent place as a booby-trap for RAM thieves.

Very true, my brother and his nerdy friends all have them. They like to advertise their nerdyness.
