Its a shame that there is not a whole lot musically that turns me on anymore. I am a 21 year old jazz fusion musician playing music for the last 16 years of my life and there are few stones left un-turn for me. With that said the first piece of music to turn me on in a while is Bjorks new song on her latest album Medulla. The song is Oceania. And its the last 28 seconds, where Rhazel and Mike Patton harmonize the bass line with there voices, and nothing else is played. I will undoubtedly have to wait an other 6 months before i hear something as powerful and original again...

until then, peace

People are really getting bad at the topic-naming thing...

With that said, Björk's new album is a whole lot of hype. It's been done before. And her singing voice just isn't my thing (in the fact that it is a little grating and, well, her pronunciation is a little more than odd)...

I'm listening to "Oceania" right now, and while some of the vocal effects are cool, the overall is far from brilliant in my oh-so-humble opinion.

If this is the most "powerful" and "original" thing you've heard in awhile, then I recommend you listen around a bit more. Check out All Songs Considered for a few diamonds-in-the-rough every so often ("Oceania" appeared here a bit before it was released...but I personally didn't care for it. Also, a recommendation: go straight for the archives, I haven't listened to the Grammy's special, but I can't imagine it being the most spectacular thing in the line-up).

There's your problem right there. You're not supposed to get into jazz fusion until you're at least 45.

Cure: Go listen to some AC/DC. Discard the lack of complex harmonic structure and bask in the primal energy it brings (i.e. go listen to things which you'd normally hate and find something to like about them - it works).
If it doesn't scare hippies, it's not worth listening to

I still love the timeless classics like the Velvet Undergound. Anyone for White Light White Heat?

You obviously didn't dig deep enough ...or read my whole post for that matter.

Remember, that "crap" even includes the song you just soiled your pants with.

ALSO: it's a bit narrow-minded to automatically decide that anything involved with the Grammy's is terrible. Most of it is most likely bad, based on the past, surely, but that doesn't mean a drizzle of good music didn't get caught up in the storm.

If you want something new, to your ears at least. It might be 350+ year old but it's just great.

La Sonnerie de Sainte Geneviève du Mont à Paris for violin, viola da gamba & continuo
Composed by Marin Marais

Tried to find an audio link to the piece but could not.

Vinnie Colaiuta is a nice jazz drummer. Though if you want music you won't get tired of, I can only think of one band.

Tool.

Danny Carey, as any drummer knows, is God.

Tool will turn you on if you're a homosexual, cuz the band is gay.
