I was at the ABC (pronounced in the French way) Outdoor Shopping mall in Beirut, Lebanon last week and they had a big poster up advertising the shopping center.

Isn't that a direct knock off of the silhouette iPod ads?

(Side note, just 10 days ago I was just one block from where that bomb went off in Beirut)

It is. But I doubt Apple has a trademark on silhouettes with a coloured background.

Apple wasn't the first person to do a silhouette over a color background, they just made their mark when it was in an animated commercial (which transitioned over to print/street ads).

I don't think this is really a "RIPOFF"...even if you do see similarities.
"You rise," he said, "like Aurora."

Wow.

My Public School must have been ripping off Apple when each of us did our silhouettes for Graduation like 15 years ago.

Oh please. Dancing silhouettes have been around forever. They were all the rage in the early nineties dancevideos (my favorite one was a "demo" for Amiga from Spaceballs that were ripped off and intercut with a dance video for MTV). And have you never seen a bond movie?

The thing Apple added was the contrasting white (a second silhouette) of the iPod.

but he is the 18th century french poster designer. i mean, if you "borrow"... try to make it your own.

walter bradley did stuff sort of like that but art deco too. apple did it with bright colors but this has been around since forevera

Who cares? If anything you all should be flattered that Apple/Chiat Day/TBWA have created such a successful marketing campaign that others are following suit.

Also, a french artist named Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec did posters, too.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Other than the bombing, how has the trip gone. I'm Armenian and so is my mom but she was born and raised in Lebanon and she's always trying to get me to go that way for a vacation. I'm sure I'll end up there one day, but I'm curious how life is there now a days compared to what my mom remembers.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

that particular shade of green (I understand apple doesn't have a TM on that color) with the black silouette, and the white along with it is pretty much ripping it off.

It comes down to this. If you were a ways off, would you think it was an ipod ad? I would think so.

If the ipod ad were my brainchild, and I saw this, I would feel someone had stolen my idea, not been inspired by me.

Gee. Thanks.

I almost got it confused with the English ABC Outdoor Shopping mall and the German ABC Outdoor Shopping mall.
