This is a bit of a rant. I apologize in advance.

Tonight I'm hanging out with some friends. By the end of the evening they're both pretty drunk, and we're all heading home. They start talking about getting some food, and since I don't want them behind the wheel I offer to drive. We go to the drive-thru at a fast food place.

At this point, one of my friends sees a big banner the place has hung up around the back. My friend decides they want it. Despite my protestations, they dash out, tear the sign down and try to bring it in the car. I'm pretty annoyed, and I wasn't having it. It wasn't getting put in my car. This annoyed my friend.

A minute later, I've got one of the employees outside, taking down my license plate number, and threatening to call the police if the sign isn't still in the back (At this point I'm just thankful the sign didn't get in my car). Anyway, my friend fesses up and gives the guy their phone number. My friend makes a big deal out of it, making a crack like "back where I'm from, people steal sh*t all the time and nobody cares."

So at this point, these guys have my license plate number. Don't get me wrong. I know it's just a sign, and nobody's gonna call the cops or anything.

What makes me beyond angry is the way in which both of my friends proceeded to bitch me out the entire ride home for being too uptight. Never once did the phrase "Maybe I just shouldn't have done it" cross anyone's lips. It's this mentality I'm seeing more and more of, this idea that drunk stupidity is a way of life that everyone has to roll over for. The idea that the entire world exists solely for someone's pleasure. That this friend would put ME in the position of having to answer for their immaturity.

I guess I'm more angry at the mentality than I am at my friend. Even in typing this out, I'm realizing just how dumb the prank really was. But I guess I'm talking about something bigger here. Some kind of culturally ingrained apathy and feeling of superiority. I wish I was more eloquent.

So if anybody read all the way through this, thanks for listening to my venting.

This was some stupid, immature sh*t, I'm telling you.

I know what you feel. When my friends do this kind of **** I just tend to walk away. I've never done stupid things like that even while being as drunk or even more drunk than them. Maybe I can handle booze better but whatever. Now since I started driving I don't drink that much anymore and when you're sober this stuff gets much more apparent. A few weeks ago we were in some bar and there was this wall with all kinds of holes in it. And so they decided to start punching the wall for some reason and making more holes in it. Up untill the owner comes to them and asks their phonenumber and name etc. They were still trying to say "what does it matter, there were holes there allready, a few more or less won't make a difference". After they said that I said that I would be waiting in the car (we were about to leave anyway).
They are my friends but I'm not going to defend them on crap like this. When you are 18-20 years old you should know that **** like this is out of the question. Heck even if you are much younger.
They even asked me to keep te car ready so they could get in if the cops would arrive. That's when I said no ****ing way. They kinda understood that though.
I'm glad they didn't get my license plate actually since it's on my mothers name (has to do with insurance, insurance for -28 year old people here is disgustingly expensive) and she would be in deep **** because of some immature behaviour.

I'm not exactly sure how this went down... but I find what your friends did somewhat stereo typical. In fact so typical in my world that I actually account for it. Then I sit back an watch them get in trouble for it time and time again... now that's comedy. Don't let them get to you.

its called they are drunk. Drunk people do stupid things which is why its illegal to drink and drive. Oh man the memories of all the crap I use to get in when I was younger and drinking almost every night. LOL once on a school night we drank until 5 in the morning, got a couple hours of sleep and went to school still drunk (which wasent the intention)

Well, you know what they say:
  • "Oftentimes, you can judge a person's true character by observing how they behave when they are drunk."
Leaving aside that what your "friends" pulled at that drive-thru was not a prank but theft, the fact that they got annoyed when you asked them not to bring the stolen banner in your car should tell you everything you need to know. Real friends would respect your wishes - regardless of how drunk they were.

Most of the largest mistakes in my life... begin with "this one time, I was really drunk..."

It was a college phase for me. Thank God I grew out of it, but some of my college friends never did. I did some rather foolish things in college, but I find it is in no way a true reflection of who I am.

The most solid piece of advice I can give you're is that if you waiting around for whoever it is to get things right... you'll be waiting forever. No, that's not a joke really.

The other peice of advice, as sad as it might be, is that the only thing that drives the bulk of humanity is fear. And then only a foot in the ass produces any motivation.

A friend of mine walked 3 miles in the snow with 2-85lb cement pineapples over his shoulders because he thought they'd look good on his front porch. They did look good, for a week - until some other drunk kid thought they'd look better on his.

I'm past the college phase, and most of my friends are too. But I'm going to have to beat on one of them bc he's an alcoholic. Too bad my friends up north don't care enough to make him stop.

question how old are they? Because between the ages of 17 to 22 I did some really stupid things, and most my friends who are now 23-25 only grew out of that crap too around 22.

They were drunk. You weren't. That's the problem.

It would have been funnier if you had left them there holding the banner and forced them to walk home (or a mile to catch up to you).

Being the only sober person in a group is no fun. The drunks think everything is funny and always want to do stupid sh*t.

Your "friends" are a microcosm of American culture. We take what we want, when we want, without regard for others. Get used to it.
