Had a good look on google for that, i got the exact same picture, but not at any bigger size. Sorry I can't help. If you google 'jaco' you might find a similar one if it doesnt have to be that exact picture.

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

Unfortunately I think you're s.o.l. 72/96 dpi doesn't scale to anything.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a tattoo in low res, showing pixels and artifacts ?

Nope, there isn't - you can't add detail to an image that was never there to begin with unless you draw it by hand (e.g., in Photoshop), essentially making up the detail.

Now, the worst thing about blowing up a lo-res image is usually not only the loss of detail but the dreaded pixelation. This is what the image you posted above looks like @ 600% zoom ...
What you can do however, is smooth out those pixelated areas so your printed image won't look so pixelated when you blow it up to a higher (suitable for print) resolution. Here's an example of the same image @ 100% (no zoom, same physical size) ...
Note that using this method will not increase the amount of detail present in the image - that's impossible. It simply simulates a smoother appearance at higher resolutions.
I've whipped up two versions, one from the gif you posted, the other from the jpg posted above that you might want to try to print (if you use an inkjet printer, use the thickest photo paper you can find!!!) and see if they work. Each image is roughly 10" x 7" @ 150 dpi (tif format) - print each on a letter size sheet to check what they look like. If you need it to be smaller, open it in Preview, choose Page setup and scale it down in steps of approx. 25% - e.g., 75%, 50%, etc.

Here are the links to the files: jaco01.zip (388kb), jaco02.zip (386kb)

Hope it helps.

How did you do that? I want to resize the image at this page so that I can more easily color in the states/countries that I have been to. It gets too pixelated when I try to do it in PS7.

Yeah, knock yourself out.
That would basically mean to re-create that picture.

Three ways:
  1. The "Autotrace" tool in Illustrator, yields a vector graphic.
  2. The "Trace Bitmap" tool in Flash, export result to Illustrator file - yields a vector graphic
  3. pxl SmartScale from Extensis (Photoshop plugin), yields a bitmap
And then there's the semi-manual Photoshop way, that's a bit too complicated to get into here. I always suggest to see if 1 or 2 above work - creating a vector graphic gives you the most flexibility in terms of resizing. With Samurai's img above that didn't work without major reworking in Illustrator so I simply made my own Photoshop "soup"

If you want it as easy as possible, download a 30 day trial from Extensis and use the plugin - the results are (nearly) identical to my home-brew. Only trade-off is a loss of flexibility in exchange for a much easier way to scale img's. There used to be another product from some Dutch company that scaled images rather nicely but I can't remember the name ...
