Heh. Apple XRAID at Intel Developer Forum

"At its developer forum, Intel touts Apple's Xserve RAID storage system, which is powered by Intel chips. The Apple storage system is sandwiched alongside more familiar Intel customers Dell and IBM."

According to Intel marketing materials, the Xserve RAID uses Intel's IOP 331 chip, a derivative of the XScale processor. The IOP chip, which is used in many storage systems, is designed to speed the task of shuttling data in and out of a computer system.

If it transfers data faster than the Power PC chip, then it could appeal more to large firms.

USB was invented by Intel. Its components are not necessarily made by Intel. Also, the iMac was the first personal computer on the market that had only USB ports for connecting to external devices, back when it was introduced in Aug. 1998.

Can someone tell me what the symbol is at the end of this thread's title? For some reason, Safari in Tiger has been incorrectly drawing symbols in the MacNN forum.

What I see is a blue diamond with a question mark inside of it right after "Inside" ("Apple has Intel Inside").

Thanks.

Here's the code to see the symbol:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Command-Return...

Thanks. But why does Safari keep switching to automatic encoding even though I have it set for Western encoding in the preferences? I have to manually switch it everytime I change threads or forums in MacNN.

Is this a problem with the MacNN forums or Safari?

It's neither. This thread was started before we switched to Unicode, so the text is encoded as ISO Latin 1. Any posts made after the switch are saved as Unicode. MacNN now declares itself as Unicode, so the browser is correctly rendering the text as such.

The setting in the preferences is only used for websites that fail to declare a text encoding -- tecnically, something that should never happen.

This was all discussed in detail in the Feedback forum, where any continuation of the text encoding discussion is to continue.
