Wow, nice. That is interesting, to say the least. Red is better for at night, obviously, but white or blue would look sexier, IMO.
Edit: woah. From tout's pic, my opinion is that it is way too bright. Still neat.

I have to wonder how bad it looks in the inside though.

Interesting.
I'm wary of G5 tower casemods, though. They had to do some impressive airflow engineering to keep everything at a reasonable temperature, and I'm not sure how wise it is to disrupt that airflow.

I totally agree. Also, if they would shave the heads of the LEDs down so that you really couldn't see then when they were off, I think it would make it all that much more interesting...
My vote = BLUE

The other light on the front is white so maybe that would look better.

Have you ever seen a white LED clock though?

No, and I'm sure it is because red is easier on the eyes in darkness, right?
I'm just saying for sexiness factor, white fits with the machine better.

No I am not objecting to a white G5 LED clock. I am saying since all he did was take a regular alarm clock and gut it good luck finding one with white LED's to gut.

From this pic:
It looks like he put the LEDs on himself (how else would they be spaced so well as to fit in the holes). Even if he didn't, replacing them with any color you want would be easy.

Sweet idea!
Red when HDD is being accessed and blue when it is not will be cool!

Dude, didn't just gut a clock.
He made his own circuit board after taking apart an alarm clock to see one in action. He didn't even use the same LEDs, he bought the ones he noticed would fit in the holes. In all likelyhood, some manufacturer makes them in blue and white, but he found red and stuck with it.
IMHO, it looks meh.

Yikes! That's a little too big to be flashing back and forth between colors. Unless you never have any epileptics over.
I think LEDs are common as red/green for multi colored. I don't know about red/blue. Blue/white might be common, IIRC.

We also know, from looking at PC case mods, that blue is faster.

Yes, much faster then old red ones. Red reminds me of my 40lbs. alarm clock from 1982.
I wouldn't mind seeing a green variant.

Very nice looking. Would only be useful if the G5 is on the desktop.

Reminds of Night Brights. Those pegs you stick in that board to make a light picture.

Unless you're like me, and absolutely detest red displays. Like, I have an irrational hate for them. Do you know how hard it was 10 years ago to get alarm clocks with large-number green displays? (I can't see crap without my glasses, so I need huge numbers! The bigger the better.) Nowadays they're faaaiirly common, but years ago it was tough!
