Let's say, oh, someone is getting married. And he needs to buy his nerdy groomsmen gifts. And he's a thrifty, geeky fellow who would like to buy them all iPod Shuffles, but $25 to $40 is his price range. Only one of the groomsmen is a Mac+iPod user (but he's the best man, of course), so Mac-centric may be difficult. And software is a no no.

So what can I, er, I mean he, get them?

I was thinking of retro japanese toy robots or David Horvath figures, but I'm sure there are more creative ideas out there.

Can anyone link some ideas?

PS. this could make a nice birthday gift suggestions thread if I see things here I wish I'd like for myself.

congratulation... I mean, why not a give them a book (made through Iphoto), personalized with pictures of the two of you and friends. Including your own text and some goofy photo would do the job.

monogrammed cufflinks

That is the only semi-cool thing I have seen given as gifts to groomsmen.

Get engraved flasks for the ones that don't smoke. Go ahead and fill 'em up w/ their favorite alcohol, that's always a nice surprise. Nobody likes an empty flask.

Well, I wish I could have replied sooner, and so far, the rally has been good. But I need some more ideas.

I'm trying to be unconventional here, so zippos and flasks are of the same ilk as money clips and pens: not exactly my style. Zippos acan be pretty cool, but none of us smoke. Flasks are manly, but a little tired. Monogrammed cufflinks are money, but too money: a bit our of my price range.

Also, iTunes gift cards are not gonna work because, as I said earlier, not everyone has an iPod or wants one. I can't force it on them, nor do I want to give them something they'll give away.

The iPhoto book is nice idea, but two of my groomsmen are there because of my fiancee (her brother and one of her best friends) and I don't go back very far with them. So, it won't quite work.

I looked through Think Geek, but even the swiss army USB drive was a bit too expensive for so little memory. I'm also considering Marcel Dzama "Monsters of Winnipeg" action figures, which are pretty art and nostalgiac for those of us who grew up in Canada and collected Star Wars figures back in the day. But this is a bit too "concept gift", and not interesting/meaningful enough.

Cmon' everyone, I really need some creative advice! I can't believe how difficult this is.
When you were young and your heart was an open book, you used to say "live and let live."
But if this ever changing world, in which we live in, makes you give in and cry, say "live and let die."

Gift a good dog. A dog that never barks but is cute, cuddly and very stooooopid, a dog that doesn't ever bite or if it does it should quickly die on the spot, in a heart beat, asap, will be ok if it dies in like 5 minutes due to guilt preferably (if that can be accomplished) or may be just that this dog is extremely allergic to human blood, now such a canine will be a unique gift indeed...I wonder what one should call such a dog....

Knives. Boys like knives. Little pen knives. But be sure to ask a penny from them first -- old supersition that knives should not be given. The very existence of such a superstition makes knives an excellent guy gift.
