Found this on the Wired site:
http://www.wired.com/news/digiwood/0...w=wn_tophead_2
Thought some of you might like this (whopper 2.6 GB)
I haven't tried the torrent downloads yet. Did find the download
for the app - thanks to all here.
There's also a link for a smaller version of the songs, if you read the
article. Just thought it was really neat. Like the idea of using the iPods
at the Festival too; something I didn't know they could do.
Enjoy!

No problem.
Have seen so many cool things (and things I'd have never
thought to search for on my own) because of this place - just
wanted to give something back.

This is an awesome idea.
Hear which bands you like and choose the ones you want to see at the festivle.

was anybody actually able to download the whole thing?
i've got about 44% of the 2.6GB thus far. not too many people out there sharing.
they just released an extra 20 tracks, btw. it's a quick 85MB download (via torrent).
the ID3 tags in those 20 were spotty. some had everything, some where missing the album, and the bitrate ranged from 80 (!) to 192.
{edit} a few of the artists are in musicbrainz, so you can use iEatBrainz to tag em for you.

Demonhood,
I downloaded the BT app, but haven't figured out how that works yet.
I read all about the guy who created it; too cool.
The ID3 tags you mentioned must be the title, etc that show up in iTunes
and on the iPod to tell the artist and such. Ya?
Just wish we had faster access here in the boonies.
Thanks for the headsup on the additional tunes.

I've been trying to download it since last Thursday. I've only gotten about 75% done.

I finally started the DL yesterday. I have just over 38MB done, and
mine is Uploading at a much higher rate than what's coming down.
Hopefully, a trip to Starbucks (and the TMobile link) will speed
this process up a bit.
Still think it's a great idea; even if my dialup stinks - I knew that
to begin with.

I don't know if this will be some people's first time using BT, but remember to open ports 6881-6889 and forward the same ports to your mac if you're using a router. Maybe most people are better with this stuff than me but I was running BT for ages before finding this out and it does increase yr download speed...

mine has been going for a very long time (and i'm only at 65%).
i think my ISP is thwarting my legal torrent efforts. and yes, my bt ports are open.
still, if it finishes i'll leave it up so that others won't have as hard a time grabbing it as i've had.

system prefs > sharing > firewall > click 'new' and add the port range 6881-6889.
If you have an airport extreme or other router there is some guidance on port forwarding here: http://www.blueskyis.com/bittorrent/...forwarding.php

The upload/s is still much higher than the DL of 1.8 KiB/s dn.
Appreciate the help.
And yep -this is my first attempt at BT. May need help
figuring out how to get the files into iTunes for my iPod

I think they're just Zip archives, presumeably containing all the MP3s. You should just be able to drag the folders (after decompressing them by double-clicking) to your iTunes library.

I just downloaded the entire 2.63 GB in 1 hour 34 minutes. There are currently 398 peers.
Oh, and thanks for the link, Patti!

Mal,
Thanks for the heads-up on the peer volume; unfortunately caught
that a day late.
Am currently showing 55 peers;
still uploading waaaaay faster than down.
And some good news; only 15 days left at this rate.
woohoo

Hey guys,
anyone has the link that leads straight to the website providing the torrent?
The wired article has disappeared!

Woaw.
Twice this morning it gave me a "not available on server" type of message!
I did google it as well and it gave me the same reply each time.
But now.. it works!
Thanks Fiend!

I've never used torrents. Is there a how-to guide and links where to get them from?

First, get a torrent application like Tomato Torrent. Second, download the torrent file (a file with the extension .torrent). Then open the .torrent with the application. The downloading will start. Give it time to get going.

Am trying to get the 85MB file tonite; the extra tunes they added on.
Bad news is; in a fit of "tidyness" the other day, I trashed
the bittorrent app. Today, I downloaded it again..... it had
a different icon last month when I did it.
Now for what is probably a stupid question;
The file my original version was downloading to is
still on my desktop.....I tried to drag it into the new
window and it wouldn't let me.
I dragged the new link in (for the 85MB file) and
it began to work.
Question is; how do I pick up where I left off with
the first one. Think I had over 250MB of file so far.
That file is showing 3 items in it now...
just not sure how to get the original DL restarted.
Anybody care to help..
TIA
Patti~
