It began about 30 mins ago. The local news channel is talking about it. However, the cause is unknown yet.

Thanks for the link; bad news is the image comes up for me as static.
Although there's a glowing portion of the static that could be the
eruption, I guess.
There's a note on there saying they're thankful the camera was finally
working again as of today.

[QUOTE/Updated Tuesday, March 08, 2005 @ 1:33 pm PST

1:33 pm Update: Kudos and many public thanks to several nameless Forest Service people are in order! The network connection between the Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam and the rest of the world appears restored and working. Let's keep our fingers crossed that all remains well, and we can sit back and enjoy the views of Mount St. Helens during this beautiful afternoon.

Weather Today: Partly sunny. Patchy fog in the morning. Free air freezing level 10,000 feet. Valley highs around 65 light wind./QUOTE]

Sounds like it was a great day until this happened.
[QUOTE/
Please note that since October 11, 2004, Mount St. Helens has been in a constant eruptive state./QUOTE]

Just hope everyone in the vicinity was prepared this time.

You can see when it erupted on this page of photos from the cam:

Found some coverage about it on the Weather Channel; right now there's
more coverage about the blizzard on the East coast.
Kinda feel sorry for those guys; it will be sunny and 80 degrees here
tomorrow.

Although I wasn't hit by that recent storm, on behalf of all my fellow Easterners, I'd like to say that I'd rather live somewhere with a few months of cold weather than live somewhere with a non-zero probability of the earth shaking under your feet, or even cracking open and sucking you in.

Seriously, though, although I've never been to Seattle, I've been to Portland and the surrounding area a few times, and loved it there, so I'm sure I'd like Washington State too....

dreilly1: Have lived back East most my life, with only the last 18 years in
Northern CA. The older I get - I'll take a little shake once in a while over the
butt numbing cold. Luckily, all the recent shakers haven't been near my area.
We've known it when a couple ocurred, but mostly hear about it on the news.

I have more issues with the flooding my area see's when the mountains thaw
and the rivers rise.

Actually, I visited the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument back in July, it's 200 miles away from here.

Meanwhile, I'm having a trip to NYC with my mom 2 weeks from now. I hope the weather will be fine.

I'm still waiting for the Yellowstone Supervolcano to blow.

I heard about this on the news last evening also. Luckily it seems to have just been smoke.

Climbed on the roof of my work building last night and watched the huge cloud take shape and then dissipate. Pretty amazing I must say.

I'm guessing it's because Mt.St. Helens is a volcano....
