Right then... here goes.

I'm a fairly regular user, put prefer the complete anonymity that a new user name affords.

The embarrassing problem isn't, I guess, that bad. I have to go to for a piss more often than most people (about twice as frequently), especially, I find, when drinking alcohol. That's it really. Not that bad huh? But still, quite an issue for a guy. I got round to going to the doctor's a few weeks ago. They told me it's not a huge problem, and to try holding it in for longer; eventually it should get better. The thing is, it's only been getting worse. The capacity is still similar, it's just the urge to go comes earlier and more persistently. I can still hold it in until the same capacity is reached, but it's (even) more difficult than before. Has anyone else experienced this??! Any tips/ideas?

Thought here might be the place to help because I know I can kind of trust you guys and guarantee anonymity. None of my real life friends have the same problem so not much point asking them for help!

I was always told if you need to pee, pee.

If it such an issue then I would suggest that you drink less. I typically don't eat too much but am drinking fluids constantly all day instead so trips to the little boys room are frequent.

Are you sure that you are not beinf self-conscious and have now developed a fixation on it.

Now that I have broken the new thread seal, posts will start gushing.

You know, this forum doesn't discuss stuff like this much. We aren't a serious topic kinda place, at least with personal stuff like sex and health. I'm not trying to discourage you. It's not like it's against the rules, but in general, it's just not a topic we go for. Probably why you feel the need to be even more anonymous than your already anonymous username.

I've read discussions about how often people urinate. I thought it was here, but I can't find it, so it must have been at another forum.

This is a good forum to ask questions like that. You'll get a much better answer from a community that is used to discussing stuff like that.

Now, my response to you is, from what I read in the thread I vaguely remember, that people urinate at many different intervals during the day. There were some that go a couple times per hour every day. I have a friend who goes, what it seems like to me to be, all the time. I think people are just different. If you are looking to change this, then I have no advice. I'm sure it's a bit annoying to deal with and can get in the way of doing things sometimes.

I will be surprised if people take the topic seriously.

You did have your fasting glucose, Uric Acid, BUN and serum creatinine tested right?

Assuming the answer is yes and they came back normal, I suggest...

1) Drink less.
2) Depends.

Don't drink alcohol for a while, it makes you have to go. Try cutting it out for a month or so.

I had the same exact problem in college. It got to the point where I would go to the bathroom and 20 minutes later need to go again. Eventually (after a year or so) it simply went away.

I went to the doctor and they said it was quasi-normal... but if I ever have pain that I should go back. I never did.

Whenever I am drinking, I have to go a lot to. Isn't this normal though for most guys... I was going to ask my doctor about it, but than I realized that most of my freinds are the same when they are drinking. I wouldn't worry too much "aaa1". If this is your biggest problem, than you don't have much to worry about.

Check for diabetes. If older than 35, consider a prostrate exam as something could be squeezing your bladder.
And there's the old standby, drink more water. Not liquids or beer but water. This will help.
Finally, there's exercises you can do to control your ... command better. Helps in not-potty times as well.

Frequent urination can be a sign of diabetes, enlarged prostate, bladder problems....

Perhaps an appointment with an urologist to better get to the bottom on this. Also might want to go back to your internist and ask about blood and piss test.

good luck

I have to go all the time when I drink! Once I break that seal its all over....its not so much a capacity issue as much as the bladder just fills right up. But I'm not that embarrased about it its more of a joke among my friends

Alcohol and caffeine supress ADH, which regulates how much liquid you're pissing out. I figure I'm extra sensitive to this. The one thing I notice is that I dehydrate more quickly as a result..so I need to chug water before I go to bed or I get a mean hangover.

Not a big deal...I know a bunch of people that piss and **** themselves in bed when they drink alot..so things could be worse!

a) not embarrassing

b) not a problem.

(I once met a guy with three kidneys. That *was* a problem - every ten minutes is just a little too often. Not the slightest bit embarrassing, either, though.)

Drinking beer, if that is what you are drinking, will make you pee more. This is especially true if it is watery American beer. A problem? No. Inconvenient? It can be, especially at a bar or club where there is a huge line to use the johnny.

I guess "aaa1" been taking a whiz since yesterday. For being so worried about it, he's not responding much.

Maybe he peed himself into nothingness...?

lol, I haven't quite pissed myself into nothingness just yet!

My original post was made while drunk, and in hindsight I shouldn't have posted it! But seeing as it's here, may as well reply to all your helpful points. They ran a test for diabetes and that's clear. I'm in my 20s, so don't think its prostate problems or anything. It's always been this way, it's just that its started to become a consideration not just when I'm drinking beer, but in normal everyday life. The whole thing is not such a big deal, it's just quite embarrassing, for instance when I go to the bathroom noticeably more often than my girlfriend when we've been drinking the same amounts! I know it's not the end of the world or anything, but it would be nice if there was a solution.

Finally, can I express my amazement and thanks for the fact that this thread didn't descend very quickly into a... err... piss-take.

I saw an ad on TV for Ditropan which is a drug for female OAB. (btw, these pharma ads on tv these days are out of hand and should be stopped). I am not sure if there is a male version. I have a friend who has had this problem for, well, I guess as long as I can remember. This probably has more to do with something physical than your fluid intake.

Sure, alcohol can act as a diuretic, but if your drinking the same as everyone else but running to the can 4 times more often than everyone else, then there is clearly something else going on. People can be be pretty ****ed up about it too. One guys regularly says to my friend "hey man you're the best, your NUMBER ONE." Obviously, pun intended. It can also be a real problem when you are on a date for the first time and every 15 minutes you have to excuse yourself to go to the bathroom.

I have always notice that girls can hold their liquids better. They may get drunk quicker, but they never have to take a whiz.

All this is of course my own opinion, so please do not trundle out scientific reports stating otherwise!

Alcohol (especially beer-especially Domestic US beer at that), caffiene, certain vegetables (carrot juice in particular) and many other things can influence how fast the kidneys excrete urine. So can life with a water bottle glued to your hand.

As an Air Force instructor, I had to maintain a fixed schedule: 50 minutes of class and 10 minutes of break. Talking all the time (as in performing lectures or guided discussions) gets you into the habit of having something handy to drink, so I had a soda or cup of coffee or bottle of water handy. It was funny; in class I had to use the bathroom EVERY SINGLE BREAK. When I went home, I didn't have that sort of urgency.

I cut out the constant water bottle usage, cut back on my coffee, and now I don't have that sort of issue.

Bottom line: restrict caffiene, cut out alcohol, reduce water intake, and see whether there's any effect on your timing and urgency.

Here you go:

1) Cut out all soda pop.

2) Drink Lemonade (with Splenda sweetner).

3) Stop eating salads. Eat regular food.

The soda pop was a problem for me.

I waited as long as I possibly could -- trust me, it was quite difficult.

And now I have to walk DOWNSTAIRS and tap a kidney...

The strengh of the stimulus is also affected by the attention that you give to it. By focusing on your need to pee you amplify it. It's very difficult to control that but if you can manage to think less about your bladder it could help.

If you cut down on fluids and still have a problem, then you still need a further evaluation by your physician. I agree that overactive bladder is a possibility.

I have exacty the same problem when drinking alcohol. Found that Detrusitol (think its called Detrol is the US) worked really well for me - especially when drinking alcohol. I know it´s not reccomended, but it did not give me any side effects.

I had similar symptoms to you. Most of the time my bladder felt full and i would literaly go to the toilet and see one drop of urine come out.And recently its been the other way around i dont feel full but i have to urinate more but i attest that to the hot weather and drinking more fluids.I went to the DR and his answer was i dont know.So i left it at that and i try not to worry about it.Also are you taking any medication?I was taking some medicine at the time which may have interfered with my body.It was for hair loss and another of it uses is for prostate enlargement.

I didn't read through the thread before I posted - I see that numerous people said the same thing that I did: Diabetes.

When I had wine the other night it threw my blood sugar all off and now I'm paying for it for the next few days. Urinary frequency is definitely a symptom of unstable blood sugar or diabetes. Ever get tingly hands, feet, fingers, or toes? Bad eyesight in the mornings? Floaters in the eyes (you see black specks)?

Well, good luck from all of us, I'm sure.
