Maybe? Developer and performance tools (CHUD) now supports the 970MP and, apparently, up to 4 processors (Dual 970MP?)

Obviously, somewhere in the Centris of the curve.

No, it was on Slashdot. I surprised you couldn't tell from the puns I posted.

This will certainly liven things up. We need something to follow the G5.

Though I didn't see the /. comments you posted until after I was done with my post, I knew you got the story from there. Eug, however, has advertized his blog plenty around here, so it was just a little jab at him

Dual Core and Quad Core G5s on the Horizon
No quad core G5s. The quad cores come from 2 dual-core chips.

And it will be another G5.

Actually that kind of looks like SCUD the Disposable Assassin.

Actually there regularly are jokes that I should have been named Goliath, seeing as I'm 6 3 (though actually some of my pants are feeling mighty short so I might have grown another inch we'll have to measure one of these days.) and I'm in general not small. I haven't had to worry about just about anyone picking on me since grade 10 or so haha... But I'm more of a gentle giant... that said though while Goliath was huge... David wouldn't have exactly been tiny. He was fairly young when he fought him. But he went on to lead a nation very successfully. And won all manner of battles that he actually fought in. So it's not as if the guy was a wimp... actually he was a really cool guy in general... aside from the whole Bathsheba thing...

Actually, it was a couple of weeks before WWDC 2004 IIRC, now that I think about it. But close enough.

CONFIRMED™

The dual 64-bit core PowerPC970MP™ (970MP) is the next evolutionary step in the PowerPC 970 family of microprocessors. The higher frequency grade versions of the 970MP consume higher amounts of power than earlier IBM microprocessors do, and that can cause temperature issues. Each 970MP processor core contains a thermal diode used to monitor its operating temperature. The thermal diode must be monitored to ensure that the maximum operating temperature of the 970MP is not exceeded. These thermal diodes used by the microprocessors are unique to the PowerPC architecture and cannot be ‘read’ using standard thermal diode monitoring chips. This paper will discuss the characteristics of the diode and outline the struc-ture of a thermal diode monitoring circuit used to monitor the temperature of the microprocessor’s cores.

Heheh. Nice name.

P.S. CHUD 4.1.1 is now out, and the references to "970MP" and "Quad" have been removed.

I used to be FordPrefect on this board, but then someone came on called ford_prefect, so I changed to Deathman.
