Favorites movies of all time or favorite movies at the moment or the last movie you watched?

the last movie i watched was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. it also appears on my unofficial favorite of all-time list.

it's such a phenomenal movie.

i really enjoyed garden state which i viewed recently along with mulholland drive.

The guilty pleasure list is a long. Long indeed. im a sucker for harry potter. when its on abc family on a sunday night i can't help but watch. the same goes for you've got mail with tom hanks and meg ryan - for some reason. Dirty work, road trip, happy Gilmore – we’ve all got the guilty pleasure list.

other movies i enjoy ... high fidelity, back to the future (c'mon, best of all-time, perhaps?), and i'll have to think about it and see what everyone else says.

just thought of another ... say anything, good flick.

The LOTR trilogy has recently made it onto my All-Time Greats.
Also Fargo, The Producers, Mystic River and several others that I'm too lazy to list.
Guilty pleasures - Midway and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Cutting Class starring Brad Pitt. Amazing acting, terrific story line, extremely under-rated.

How about Casablanca or The Deer Hunter or Apocalypse Now?
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.

No particular order here...

Casablanca.

Brother Sun, Sister Moon.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (just to save space, since each is a masterpiece in and of itself).

Shenandoa (James Stewart at his best).

A Bridge Too Far.

2001: A Space Oddessy.

Destination Moon.

Forbidden Planet.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Saving Private Ryan (if I can ever bring myself to watch it again).

Favorite movie of all time:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
(I laugh 'til I cry and I know the lines when I watch it - it still
just cracks me up.)

Most recently watched: Van HELLsing......I know, didn't take your
advice and rented it anyway. To me it was more a tongue-in-cheek
horror movie. Some of the lines made me chuckle.
And I kinda like the CG parts : I'd love to learn how to create some
of the effects they did.

Another fave, but can't think of the title.....the one with Robin Williams
where his wife is an artist, they lose their kids in a car wreck, and he saves
her (the wife). Gonna have to drag that one out of the cupboard. Hmmm.

Basically; anything comedy - I'm there. Love the Potter and LOTR movies too!

P~

"Life as a House" Kevin Kline is great in this. Though certainly not bad in "A Fish Called Wanda" either.

I'm going to have to disagree with you and Matt on this one. I made the mistake of seeing Forrest Gump late in its release and buying into all the hype. Tom Hanks was great, but just about everything else was mediocre. Of course, I didn't start hating the movie until it stole all those awards from The Shawshank Redemption, which is a much better movie. Come to think of it, it stole the Best Picture Oscar from Shawshank and Pulp Fiction! WTF?

Pulp Fiction
Star Wars complete series (hoping Episode 3 does not suck)
Gladiator
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Godfather
Terminator II
Back to the Future Trilogy
The Matrix (the suck quotient of the sequels does not detract from the original, IMO)
Forrest Gump (which is not overrated)
Goodfellas
Rocky
Raging Bull
National Lampoon's Animal House

*List subject to slight revision; really should put a couple more down

so many movies - and what validates this thread is that all-time favorites do change, like the weather.

today's forecast, in no order:

Koyaanisqatsi
The Shining (Kubrick)
Goodfellas
LOTR 1,2,3
Back to the Future 1,2,3
Dreams (Kurosawa)
Arsenic & Old Lace
49th Parallel
2001:A Space Odyssey
The Guns of Navarone
Fight Club

Honorable mention: The Aviator - could've been better if it followed more of Hughes life through the early '70s ( satellite/ jet technology, playing both sides with Nixon/ Watergate, Vegas & The Mafia etc) instead of the moderately light fluff this film is.
Maybe Scorsese will make Aviator II: The Fingernail Days

It was certainly well made. But since Verhoven just bought the rights to Heinlein's story so he could "make a bug movie" (his words), I can't agree with you on this.

The novel was so important to me and my growing up, I simply couldn't "like" the film. That book was why I started giving blood, it was why I chose the career I did, and it shaped my moral identity. Much too important a book to "make a bug movie" out of.
