Seems Disney has a new CEO. I'm looking foreward to see how the relationship to Apple/ Steve Jobs will develop.

And I found that image of Eisner. Say horse-face, anyone?

Iger succeeding Eisner as Disney's CEO

MAR. 13 9:50 P.M. ET The Walt Disney Co. said Sunday its president, Robert Iger, will succeed Michael Eisner as chief executive and that Eisner will leave his post one year earlier than previously announced.

The company said Iger was unanimously elected by the board at a meeting Saturday and will take charge Oct. 1, which is the start of Disney's 2006 fiscal year. Eisner will step down the day before, although he will remain on the board for another year. Disney will pay him through Sept. 30, 2006, when his contract expires.

Eisner will end his tenure at the media and theme park company after serving 21 years. Iger will become only the sixth leader of Disney in its history.

I wonder if he's just an i-CEO without the "i". Hmm, I guess we'll find out in the next year or so.

Bob Iger, for those who wanted to know:

I just finished reading DisneyWar by James Stewart, and all I've got to say is, Eisner is nuttier than I previously thought. I wonder how much, if any, this book had to do with the suddenly accelerated pace of his departure. The book not only makes Eisner look bad, but it makes the supposedly independent board look pretty bad as well for kowtowing to him for so long.

Not surprising that Iger's in though, and no, Roy and Stanley probably aren't too happy about that.

He is a dumbass and has always been more concerned with getting Eisner's spot than the welfare of employees. I guess he's finally getting what he's always wanted.

As far as Pixar goes, he's going to be under a lot of pressure to repair the damage that Eisner has caused to their relationship, as Pixar has been saving their asses for the last few years.

Pixar isn't that important to Disney. That's like saying Microsoft would be out of business without Halo 2.

Iger probably won't make more than a token attempt to fix Disney's relationship with Pixar. He said months ago it's unlikely the two companies will be able to reconcile their differences.

Still convinced Terry Semel would have been the best for this job.

In the context of profits from feature films, yes they are. Halo 2 is a game. The Disney movie studio is a major branch in the organization. Slight difference. Disney's studio is starting to recover, but take a look at their percentage of movie income, especially in their animated features that Pixar has provided over the years, if you don't believe me.

There's more to The Walt Disney Company than movie distribution.

"This much is clear: the view among some analysts is that Disney needs Pixar more than Pixar needs Disney."

Pixar just needs to find the best deal. A distribution partner that they can profit off the most. That maybe Disney, Fox or whatever. I think the deal has made Pixar famous by attaching "Disney" onto the movies (for dumb folk who are hypnotized by brand).

From the trailer I've seen, Cars doesn't look very good at all, not even for little kids.

I think we are talking past each other, or at least I am talking past you. I was speaking in the context of the movie studio, and yes, Pixar has been one of the best things for that group in the last years. If I wasn't clear about that, I apologize. Obviously they own much more than the studio, but the studio's performance nonetheless has a great impact on their stock price. If they churned out nothing but films like The Alamo and Home on the Range, where the return is a fraction of investment, you can bet it would be reflected in the stock price.

Eisner should have been gone yesterday.

I would've bought an xbox had it not been for Halo 1 & 2. Considering all of the Playstation 2 games that my girlfriend has, I might should have bought a Playstation 2 instead.
