my sister is in college right now and she is working on a paper about international issues. she must include an interview with someone who is from a country other than america. she asked if i could help with that part of her assignment. i am asking any japanese people who have spent time in the united states of america for their viewpoint.
i suggested that she look into comparing/contrasting the issues of foreigners in america with those of foreigners in japan. i wrote the following questions, and any response you can provide is very helpful, and both she and i would appreciate it.
in your opinion:
is japan importing many things (ideas, customs, etc) from other countries, and has it always been this way?
how does japanese society feel about things that are foreign, and has it always been this way?
what do you think it is like for foreigners living in japan?
what role do physical characteristics play in a foreigner's experience here?
how did you feel as a foreigner in another country?
what role did physical characteristics play in your experience in america?
what things do you think are similar for foreigners in japan and foreigners in america? different?
do you think life is harder/same/easier for foreigners in japan than foreigners in america? why?
america has many different people while japan has very little diversity. do you think there are good/bad parts of both?
even if you could spend 5-10 min to share your thoughts, it would be helpful. again, thank you. if i get someone to help, i will post a picture of my sister.
