This is so sad. A young man ends his life. He could have done so much for society.

... taught himself how to read at 18 months and began playing the piano at 3...

Brandenn was home-schooled through high school and completed his junior and senior years in seven months.
Taught himself to read, etc.? His loving parents didn't urge him on in any way? They never pressured him to excel?
And kids who are exclusively home-schooled lack the social skills of kids who attend "regular" schools, whether public or private.
Sounds to me like he might have had a pretty sad life.

Truly unfortuante. How did they harvest his organs after suicide? Did they get to the body that quickly?

from the article:
(mother): "... We just felt like something touched him that day and he knew he had to leave" so his organs could be donated. ..."

Hmmm ... while I feel sorry for the kid and the parents' loss, the mother sure sounds like nutter.

A very sad situation. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

For a second I thought this thread said that a member from Prodigy killed themselves. That god that isn't the case.

On a side note I just finished watching the movie Heathers which is all about teenage suicide.

I've always though it interesting that mental health, which is the number 1 problem America has, gets so little attention.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

I have to wonder how lonely the boy felt at being expected to excel at everything...

And I thought it was about the internet service Prodigy, which is more than dead.

The teenage years must be very confusing for kids.

Two things come to mind:

A) Obviously he was a genius, and more intelligent than most of us...perhaps he realized how absolutely screwed we all are, and realized that it was beyond his scope to help us all (or, alternatively, that we all are past the point of no return in being saved) and decided to not see the end of us all.

B) Perhaps he realized that he had more usefulness in death than alive to us all. Think about this one for a while.

i agree with the insane mother killed him. if he was so smart he wouldn't have used a gun. he would have od'd on drugs or something. an easier and less, err, how should i put this, messy approach.
