I see some one voted yes. So wondering if they really understood, that in her current state you cant talk, you have to be feed by a tube, you cant go to the washroom yourself, you cant change the tv channels, you cant read books, you can prob listen to music but you cant decide on whats playing. You cant do anything for yourself and are 100% dependent on others. Any one in there right mind would vote death but im guessing some people rather vote no as a form of protest again her case. Which is why I asked clearly what would you want if you where in that position. Not what should be done for her.

I don't think I'd want millions of people constantly talk about me. Give it a rest already.

I'd want to die.

I don't really know much about this case, but I personally feel that in her current state, the choice should be given over to her husband.

The laws on assisted suicide are buggered, the courts are too full of self-interest ( read: politically motivated) to be trusted.

Free speech ring a bell? You give it a rest. No one forced you to read this.

I would like to die, but not due to starvation - more due to a injection of air into the veins...

At least it wouldn't take that long to die!

If I was in that state, I know it would be hard for my family but I would want to be taken off support. 15 years and not much progress just results in broken hearts and a high hospital bill.

of course in that state you couldnt do that, and it illegal for some one else to do that to you too. As bad as staving to death is, at least its death vs 30 years to tubes.

I'd like to go out with a smile. So... just shove a kilo of coke (the drug) onto my face and be done with it.

It's not really a question you can ask about someone in Terri Schiavo's condition. If I were in Terri Schiavo's state right now, I wouldn't have a will to live or a will to die, because it's not something her brain is capable of. Based on the conclusions of numerous doctors who have examined her and the scans of her brain she is lacking those parts of her brain responsible for any kind of cognitive processes. Anyone in Schiavo's current condition isn't thinking about life or death, or anything else. Her brain stem can keep her heart pumping and lungs working, but that's it.
Have you seen me?

i would have wanted to die, - 15 years ago!

i made that very clear to people close to me (especially after this fiasko), so there will be no discussion. neither with doctors, nor with the law.

But its my right to exercise it, perhaps you should talk to the parents, send them a letter about your concerns for making this into a public media circus. That is where you should send your comments about this. Its only news/chatter when some one makes it that and I did not make it that.

Forgot to add, your as guilty as I for talking about it, after all you posted in reply to this post.

I don't care how good my brain is, if I can't communicate, move, eat, etc. I might as well be dead.

I'd want to be starved to death, but first,

break some of my bones.
tell my nurses you wish I would die faster.
torture my parents and keep them from seeing me.
go out with other women, have some kids.

after I die, creamate me and then bury me in a secret plot but don't tell my folks...

Technically, if you were in that state you wouln't want anything. You're mind is already gone. The remaining body is now simply taking up space. Or at least, if that were to happen with me, burry my body, let my family move one.

I'd want the Federal government to mind their own business and stay out of personal, private matters instead of using me like a political football to pander to their base.

Their base is who elected them. That's who they represent. The government was asked to get involved.

When courts are involved (as they have been for over a decade), and tax dollars spent (hundreds of thousands of dollars - some federal), it is no longer a "personal, private" matter.

You sound as ridiculous as Michael Schiavo. "It's private". Then settle this with the family on your own and stay the f-ck out of the courts and the media.

I would not want to live in the kind of condition.

I would not want to be kept alive, but I can see why someone else would. If they thought there was a chance for recovery, for example, or if they had exceptional optimism in the pace of advancement of modern medicine. It's certainly no less believable a request than any religious practice I can think of, and those are never questioned...

So, by that rationale, all divorce and child custody cases are not private matters? I don't think so.

The fact of the matter is that the case had been decided time and time again by FLORIDA courts. The Federal government had absolutely no jurisdiction in the matter until congress (probably illegally) wrote a law that granted special rights to two people -- Terri Schiavo's parents. That's a very dangerous and very slippery slope -- it's an errosion of our democratic and federalist principles and undermines the core Constitutional principle of an independant judiciary.

Bush's Republican party has destroyed conservatism. Sure, they say they're all for individual liberty and responsibility and state's rights until the moment when Christian fundementalist morality is challenged. My bet is that this blantant hypocrisy and lust for power will be their undoing. But for now, it sure looks like we're living in a theocracy.
