According to the article, the multi-millionaire husband filed for divorce after he found emails between his wife and her rock climbing guide proving an affair. The wife won just over a quarter of his worth.
So then, I've lost all faith in the American judicial system. This makes me sick to my very soul, that woman doesn't deserve a goddamn penny, and yet she's walking away with almost $40 million. Discuss.

I could partially understand it if she invested in his career, at the expense of her own.
If not, she doesn't deserve $40 million IMO.
Mind you $40 million is less than a quarter of his net worth.

yes, i agree, nothing says i love you like a pre-nup. Heh. but i should shut up.
Only advice here, is if you are rich, you better make damn sure you get a prenup, and that you are marrying the right one. Otherwise your getting whats coming to you. Women are evil you know.

The couple met in 1978 when Howard Sosin was an assistant professor at Columbia University. At the time, she was married to another man and working in retail.
It doesn't sound like the husband had much respect for the sanctity of marriage either. He seemed to know going into the marriage that she didn't have much respect for it and shouldn't be all that shocked that she cheated on him.
We don't have all that facts, but it sounds to me like the judgment was fair.

I just read the article. The wife sounds like a real gem.
Strike that... gems are hard to crack. She's as easy as they come. She can't even take an airplane flight without spreading her legs and taking in whatever comes her way.

I wonder if she is available? Some guy should marry her, then divorce her for her money...

1) If you're the guy asking for the a pre-nup you're pretty much guaranteed to be screwed... if you screw around.
2) Even with a pre-nup, if your soon-to-be-ex-wife has a good lawyer, she can get lots of $$$ if it's justified, regardless of what the pre-nup says.
ie. Pre-nuptial agreements may or may not be of any help, depending on the circumstances.

Women usually win in our current legal system. At least it was only a quarter.

From CNN story:
The couple met in 1978 when Howard Sosin was an assistant professor at Columbia University. At the time, she was married to another man and working in retail.
This strikes me as very important in the relationship; while it doesn't SAY she cheated on her previous husband with Sosin, it does imply it. What do you get when you marry a cheater? A cheater who'll cheat on you.
I think Sosin was satisfied. He got the bulk of their holdings, he's still richer than sin, and he's free to find some other arm candy for his next trophy.
Yes, I'm cynical. It's how stories like this make me feel.

You had faith in it before?
Sorry, legal systems don't work that way. If you want "justice" in the western world, be prepared to bend over backwards to be raped by lawyers and their extremely fair compensation.

File it under the benefits of having a vagina. Apparently having one of those entitles you to lots of money and the kids, if any are involved (not referring to this case in particular).

And the logic is that she could have earned that $40 million on her own if she hadn't been with the husband?
